Should I get a puppy?

I have 2 dogs (both 11 years old), 4 cats (17 years, 2 years, 1 year and 7 months) and a rabbit. My 15 year old cat just died less than 2 weeks ago. I have a good sized house with a large fenced in yard. My parents live about 2 blocks away but my mom has Alzheimer's and my dad doesn't move around too well. I am home all day.

There is an absolutely adorable puppy (4 months old) on the Humane Society website and they are having an adoption 'sale' tomorrow. $80 instead of the usual $135, which includes spaying, shots, deworming, etc.

Am I crazy for wanting to add a puppy to my 'zoo'?

if its a rescue animal, and you can afford to feed and care for it, sure why not? A puppy will probably make your care of your parents more bearable for you. Maybe your mom will respond well to it. Good luck to you.

I so agree with steav, a puppy may help your mother to a degree, you help the puppy by adopting, the puppy helps you with your stress, its a all win situation. Just make sure you are ready because if dogs are taken back to the shelter after an adoption they are practically deemed impossible or re adoption, it hurts them. Good luck, you sound like an awesome pet lover!

A puppy would be a good mixture. It will sometimes keep the older ones younger at heart for longer.
