we found this bird (i think its a kingfisher) under our house and it doesn't seem to be able to fly,?

but I can see anything wrong with its wings or anything. we once had a pariket do the same and it eventually started to fly a little bit at a time and finally flew away. but I don't know if this bird carries any diseases. Is there something we should be careful of or not?

You don't need to be careful. There is not much worry.

There are several possibilities and none are potentially harmful to you or others.

The bird might be sick or injured. Nature will take its' course.

Kingfishers nest in burrows. Under your house could be like a burrow. The bird may be roosting there to get out of the weather or to recover from some minor injury.

Keep the bird in a dark place until you can take it to a vet. If it gets lively again, let it go. However, if it doesn't pick up definitely take it to a vet. They will be able to tell you what type of bird it is, if it has problems and how to take care of it. If you don't feel confident enough to take care of it, ask the vet for a wild life rescue number. They should be able to get you in touch with someone who can look after it.

Why do you think it is a Kingfisher?

Do you live near water.?Where do you live?

It could have bumped into something and dazed it-self or as you say it could be diseased, even an old bird looking for some where to end it's days.

If in doubt take it to a vet or rescue centre.

A few years ago I picked up a dead kingfisher. It had been killed when it dashed itself against a window, which it had possibly mistaken for water. Could this be what happened to your bird?
