Severe (ish) pain with wisdom tooth. To go to the dentist today or not!? Opinions and info. would be valued. :?

Basically, I think my wisdom tooth started coming through on Wednesday and it's been extremely painful since then. It keeps getting worse!

The gum around the area is swollen and really tender to touch and the bottom of my jaw (underneath all my other teeth) is aching constantly. It's even hurting on the outside of my face when I touch it and in my ear a bit.

I don't really know if the pain I am experiencing is average or above average. Any ideas? It's been preventing me from eating and also disturbing my sleep. And I think it's made my cheek puffy too.

I'm at uni. at the moment and so I called my Mum today. She said I should get an emergency dental appointment for today (Saturday). I don't really know whether I should or what they will do. Do you think I should wait it out over the weekend and go in the week? Or should I not go at all or should I go today?

Thanks for your help.

The dentist would be your best place for advice.

Personally I wouldn't try for an emergency appointment but that's me. If you can take ibuprofen then this is a good pain killer for that type of pain. You can take paracetamol (acetaminophen in USA) at the same time and blast the pain till you see your dentist.

Just having a wisdom tooth come through hurts. It doesn't necessarily mean something is wrong with how it's coming in. It's still best to let your dentist have a look though.

Think about the terrible times babies have cutting teeth and feel sorry for them now that your feeling it as an older person!

    Good luck.

Yes, go to the dentist. They will give you advice on the best thing to do. Besides, its so much better once you have them out. I just had mine out on Tuesday and I already feel so much better.
