I currently own 2 Pflueger "Supremes" and 3 "President" reels.
I took a crazy chance on the President a couple years back and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and workmanship. I was SO surprised and pleased I decided to give the Supreme a chance.
The Supreme is awesome, (for the money). It's the only magnesium-based reel in it's class that sports a $99 price tag. Everything about it (so far) has been exemplary. Other than the fact that the spool has weight-reducing holes punched that DO cause an issue if you decide to lay it down in a sandy environment it works great.
However, the XT isn't even in the Shimano's class. The Stradic has a waterproof drag system and typical Shimano durability, ETC. The only thing the XT has OVER the Stradic is weight and a measure of "smoothness" that (for some reason) even Shimano can't duplicate and THE PRICE.
(By the way, don't get the XT AT ALL! According to what I've read, the only major difference between the XT and the Supreme is the color. And, in my opinion, the color isn't worth the extra $30! lol)
Price on the Supreme- $100
Price on the Stradic- $160
Sorry to say, as much as I love my Supreme's the Stradic is a better reel.
It's also $60 more.
Now, if you were comparing the NEW Symetre and the Supreme I'd go Pflueger all the way!
But in this case, the Stradic is a better reel.
So, I guess it comes down to whether you spend $160 or $100?
You could almost get 2 Supremes for the price of 1 Stradic....?
I have an old model Stradic (the wooden handle ones) and it has done a fine job over the last 8 years......it's recently been "decommissioned" since I've purchased my Sustains and Supremes.
Hope this gives you some insight FS?

Hey now, it's good to hear from you. Happy New Year to you & yours! Personally I've never used either one of these reels. Although I switched up to the open faced reels twenty-five, scratch that, thirty years ago, would be a little more accurate. Where did the time go, I hadn't noticed. Wouldn't own a closed face reel if they were giving them away for free. And I only use the level winds when I'm out fishing for the big, powerful blue cats. (my personal best was one that weighed in at 32lb. & change) These are the ones made by Penn, and the rods that they are used on look similar to a fiberglass pool cue with eyes glued on.
I'm wondering, how big do the river chinook's get? They are mostly in the 12 to 20 lb. range here on lake Michigan.
I regularly catch bass on reels made by Daiwa, Shakespeare, Shimano, & Okuma also makes a good reel. But after they've taken the abuse that comes with being tossed in the trunk, or back of the p/up truck for five or six years, I find that I'm ready for a new one. Year before last, I bought a medium weight Shakespeare (covers 6 to 12 lb. test for line size), that has 10 ball-bearings, & it has been a real pleasure to use. I've pulled in bass that measure up to 23 & 1/2 inches, along with about 12 lbs. of weeds. I've been cheating with the line though. I specifically use the braided Spiderwire "Stealth", in the 20 lb test, weight class. It has the diameter of 6lb mono, so I can put almost 150 yds. on the spool, & it casts like the six lb mono without retaining the memory of mono. The only down side that I've found using it is that when you are putting it on the spool you must wind it on extremely tight, or it will develop the binding that is associated with a level wind. And that utilizing this technique would be considered abuse (to the reel), in some circles. The weeds that are dragged into shore along with the bass are a non-plus bonus, but that is the habitat for these larger bass.
That's just my opinion for many of my trips that I have experienced over the last twenty years or so. Both companies are "quality" brand names, but get the one that fits you for balance, ease of casting, & the fighting ability on the retrieve. That's when you know that you've made the right decision.
Later, .....

I'm a Stradic guy so that would be my pick. As for the size, at least the 4000. I use them fishing bass tournaments with 10 lb. line and they hold 200 yards. The 5000 would be a better pick with a capacity of 195 yards of 12. A lot depends on the river, size of the fish you are catching, boat or bank fishing, etc. I used my 4000s with a 8'6" ML Kunnan Competitor rod and 10 lb line in the creeks off lake Ontario for kings and steelheads and it was a blast. Lost a few but had a riot fighting them. Good luck with your fishing.

The Stradic, I have 3 of them and they are great reels, but mine are the 2500.
Really can't go wrong with either of them.
Wife has a couple of the Pflueger Presidents, but that thing is bright....put it on a Carrot stick and you would never lose it.. LOL
Or drive back up north and get the reel that some ol fart sent you, that one would work as well.......but guess that one has been claimed and spoken for...LMAO.
*Added*
If it be me I would pay more attention to what FK has to say, sense he does fish like you more than I do, meaning I catch you fish LMAO

Oliver James, Oliver Kai/Kye, Oliver Samuel Seth Jamison, Seth Jacob, Seth Samuel Yowen is in basic terms weird and wonderful, i could scrap this one all jointly, Jacob is grea although! i think of Caryth sounds like somebody with a Lisp attempting to declare 'Carys' so i could save on with Carys because it extremely attractive, Caryth isn't tremendous. Faye is a lot extra effective spelling yet would not in good condition with Carys What approximately Carys Desiree, Carys Matilda, Carys Jasmine no longer partial to Neeve yet Neeve Matilda sounds ok, Neeve Tilly is in basic terms too blunt E'Phelia is in basic terms weird and wonderful and overkill. Even Ophelia the right spelling is terrible plus she would get teased mercilessly, in intense college extraordinarily universal, Oliver And Carys could be my alternatives
