Can animals taste spicy foods?

If my dog drank a bottle of hot sauce would she feel the same effects that I would.

My dog ate a peppercorn once and started sneezing and shaking her head, they hate spicey things.

My cat doesn't go near anything spicey, nor chemicals.

Sue, I have a very small dog and he's twelve also. When he won't eat for one reason or another, he'll eat ice cream outta the bowl and wait for more. He won't eat anything salty so there must be some kind of discerning factor there. He eats most things that I do, but never a vegetable. Rachael Ray on the Food Network asked her vet about "Boo" eating baked squash and things and the vet said it was fine, so maybe you should email her 'cause shes already done the leg work. Good-luck Sue! Dee

yeah. I fed a hot spicy candy to a sheep once and it stuck it's tongue out and bobbed it's head up and down.

I know sheep aren't related to dogs haha, but my guess is that they taste it.

I would not recommend feeding spicy foods to dogs.

dogs have less taste buds then humans...but yes...it would certainly be able to taste it, and it would still be hot.
