Do you think it's ok for a 40 yo woman to have long hair?

Long, meaning down to the butt or is shorter hair more appropriate?

Update:

It's healthy and naturally curly

    depends on the person

    i have a friend almost 60

with very long hair down to her butt

she looks young and can wear what ever she wants

and it's this generation that is opening up the door for the future generations to be able to push the limit's even farther

thank goodness for older people who are paving the way for generations to come

Rules be damned! I think it all depends on how nice your hair is. If it's even remotely dry or overprocessed, you could easily lose ten inches and still have long hair, but it would improve your appearance. I think the reason the standard of shorter hair for women "of a certain age" came into existence was because most of us have to color it and we use styling tools, so we wind up with damaged hair that just ain't pretty. In that case, less is more. Most of us just weren't blessed with Crystal Gayle's tresses.

While I don't object to really long hair on mature women, I will confess that I usually jump to the conclusion that those women are hippies.

i think of this is great for women folk of any age to have long hair if this is properly dealt with. check out this record: the main tasty 40-some thing women folk: Sandra Bullock, 40 Teri Hatcher, 40 Michelle Pfeiffer, 40 six Sharon Stone, 40 six Courteney Cox Arquette, 40 Sheryl Crow, 40 two Andie McDowell, 40 six Heather Locklear, 40 3 Geena Davis, 40 9 Darryl Hannah, 40 4 i think of all of them have or have had long hair those days.

Honestly, it depends on how you're comfortable. My suggestion would be to keep it a bit shorter. Say about mid-back at the longest. It's easier to care for, it will look much nicer, and is a bit more appropriate.

i just got all my long long hair cut off in november of 08 and it was wonderful. i kept it trimmed and put vitamin e on it to make it grow and deep conditioned and when i got it cut i was told how much younger i looked and better. im 45 and dont look it but was astonished about the feedback i got after the cut. i think no more then shoulder length is good to short. but that depends on the person too.

i like shorter hair but if you look younger than just cut it past your shoulders. maybe to the small of your back. but down to your butt is never all that attractive.

but its totally up to you:)

long hair is very pretty on everyone...there is nothing wrong with an older person having long hair..in fact i think it makes them look younger,,this way we can always wear it down or put it up...and most guys like long hair..ha ha

i don't think anything is wrong with having that long hair when your 40 i know my cuzin has that long hair she's 43 and it really suits her so it just depends if it goes with your look or not =)

that long is not appropriate, i think a mid length haircut would be better
