What do you think of sequels?

I think the general rule is that the original is the best movie. For example:

The Matrix

Halloween

Pirates of the Caribbean

Die Hard

Psycho

Poltergeist

In a few instances, sequels outshine the original:

Aliens

The Godfather II

X-Men 2

The Empire Strikes Back

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

Spiderman 2

Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King

There are instances where sequels are just as good as the original, or are very entertaining even though they are probably not as good:

The Bourne Series

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Return of the Jedi

Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers

Then there are the sequels that will never live up to the original in any way, shape, or form:

Evening Star (sequel to Terms of Endearment)

Rocky V

Star Trek V

Speed 2 : Cruise Control

Stayin Alive (sequel to Saturday Night Fever)

I think sequels can be great or they can be terrible. I loved Superman 2 (even though that was filmed like Lord of the Rings where they film the whole thing and just spilt it in half). Star Wars 4,5,6 were great examples of sequels and so was Jaws 2 and 3 and Indiana Jones and Jurassic Park. Harry Potter too. Oh Friday the 13th definitely was hot

X-Men was good (it would have been great if it was more fantasy and less realistic in my opinion well I guess fans agree b/c the 3rd one where Storm got to do more stuff that was the best selling) TMNT was great (though sooo much pressure to take the violence out made it more kiddy like and that's what made the movies ultimately loose a 4,5,6 movie) Halloween series was great

but then some people mess up sequels. Mortal Kombat 2 wasn't good they made it to kiddy like and then it just wasn't realistic. The costumes resembled moreso Halloween costumes than movie costumes. And it should have been more serious than comical/campy

Like Scooby Doo. Not saying it should ahve been rated R, but dang it could have been like Buffy the Vampire Slayer show seasson 1 and 2.

Sorry but I totally think the 80s 90s Batman movies are better. I'm not sure if kids wanna be Batman with this gloomier more morbid version. And Scarecrow was a LETDOWNNNNNN. The merchandise sales aren't even close to what the first set of Batman movies made. I hate this new Batmobile. They've been totally doing well with the varoius Batman cartoon series (-this new Gold thing.)

I saw Pirates but I don't know, just not my cup of tea, I respect it but not my thing.

I'm thinking Harry Potter so far beats everything (even STar WArs) only b/c it was in 3d. haha nahhhh Really Star Wars

Superman area 2 8. below the Planet of the Apes 9. The Bells of St Marys (Going My way sequel) 10. The French Connection area 2 WORST SEQUEL TO an magnificent movie Jaws II

in general, the first movie in a series is the best. it is rare to have the sequels be better than the original. and i can never pick a favorite anything so i'm not going to answer that portion lol. but in regards to the series you mentioned, i like the second pirates of the caribbean the best and of course the dark knight was better than batman begins. i liked the first lord of the rings the best.

The Ocean's 11/12/13 were all good.

Terminator 2 IMO was better than Terminator 1 and Terminator 3 was also good. (Hell even the tv series is good)

95% of the time sequels suck though.
