So far, all I have seen is a bunch of people who don't know what socialism is.

The only halfway decent answer is because he supports a progressive tax system (tax % higher for those with higher income). Too bad that it has existed in America for almost 100 years. Going by that logic, the last 20+ presidents have been socialists.

zipzeron: you are right about one thing... you don't know what socialism is. But your honesty earned you a thumbs up. congrats.

His ideas are far more socialist than our founding fathers. Thomas Jefferson believed in John Locke's theory of natural born rights. He believe that the sole role of government was to protect those rights. FDR's Deal New and LBJ's Great Society contradicted everything our founding fathers believed in. Our founding father would not agree with a progressive tax system or a welfare state. Compared to Jefferson Obama is a socialist.

By the way KCK check your history. Hamilton, our fist Secretary of Treasury, used supply side economics. Actually the country nearly went bankrupted but Hamilton was wise enough to put supply side economics in place. Kennedy also used it to promote Job growth as did Reagan.

    He's a State Capitalist.

He believes that the coercive power of the state should intervene in natural market dynamics in order to perform social engineering, and that the government should control and own much of the means of production. This allows them to circumvent supply-and-demand's control of prices, eliminate free competition (so that their buddies get more money), and make individuals dependent upon the government.

Nothing new here, "neo-cons" were State Capitalists, too. Free-Enterprise Capitalism is either dead or in hiding.

As for Socialism and Communism, they are also State Capitalist systems. It's just a matter of degree.

Free-Enterprise Capitalism is either dead or in hiding. The last time I saw a Free-Enterprise Capitalist, he was selling lemonade at his sidewalk stand. Unfortunately, the neighborhood bullies stole his money so he lost incentive and rolled up the stand.

If he is a socialist, then so was every American president since the early 1900's. He just doesn't necessarily want to spread wealth to the richest Americans and corporations any longer. If you look at history, trickle down economics DOESN'T WORK, so we're trying something else. If trickle down worked, we wouldn't be in this mess.

McCain himself admitted Obama wasn't a socialist. Socialists don't think Obama is a socialist. The use of that word when referring to Obama is kind of like calling him a terrorist. It's just fear mongering.

Well he believes in progressive income tax - which has been around in America since Lincoln - so I guess Lincoln and every president since are socialists too.

He believes that the US healthcare system is failing millions of Americans - something that McCain actually campaigned on - so I guess McCain is a socialist too.

And he wants to return the CGT rate to the same one Reagan set - so I guess Reagan is a socialist too.

Pretty much yes!!! In several on air interviews Obama described the Constituiton as a "negative and restrictive document" in that he believes it does not allow the government enough room or lee way to further social programs for specific minority groups .

Fact: Obama wants to provide National Health Care to All.

Fact: Obama wants to create more government jobs.

If that's not socialist, I don't know what is.

He said he wanted to spread the wealth. That is socialism.

Socialism refers to a broad set of economic theories of social organization advocating state or collective ownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods, and an egalitarian society characterized by equal opportunities for all individuals and a fair or egalitarian distribution of wealth.[

distribution of goods...distribution of wealth....sounds like spreading the wealth to me.
