What do you believe Revelation 22:18-19 means?
And what do you think of this person's explanation?
Revelation 22:18-19
"For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book: And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and [from] the things which are written in this book."
A brief review of some historical facts should clear up this issue. The Bible is a collection of sacred writings that were compiled into book format centuries after the death of the original writers. When the Apostle John wrote these verses, the Bible as we know it today had not been compiled yet. Therefore, his words could not possibly be applied to the entire collection of writings today known as the Bible. John was referring specifically to the Book of Revelation.
Additionally, even though Revelation is traditionally placed last in the Bible, most Biblical scholars do not believe that it was the last book to be written among the compiled records contained in the Bible. If your reasoning is true, then those Books would also have to be removed from the Bible and discarded as false.
Also, please note the very similar wording by Moses found in Deuteronomy 4:2:
"Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish [ought] from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you."
If your interpretation of the Revelation verses were correct, then they would have to be applied here as well. In which case, the Old Testament after Deuteronomy and the entire New Testament would have to be discarded as false.
Finally, I should say that the words of both Moses and John are true. Man should not take it upon himself to add to or diminish the word of God.
"For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake [as they were] moved by the Holy Ghost." (2 Peter 1:21)
God has a plan for us and chooses men called Prophets to teach us his plan. Prophets teach the word of God as they are moved by the Holy Ghost. It is the same today as it was 2000 years ago, for God is the same yesterday, and today, and forever. (Hebrews 13:8)

Rev 22:18-19 is a copyright on that book.
People reject the greater meaning of the revelation when taking the ignorant stance that it's an end of prophecy - they forget that without modern day revelation and prophecy and work, the promises in that book can't happen.
I think people read 2 verses, listen to what someone told them it means, and ignore the rest of the book to their eternal detriment.

I got your back on this one, but in the end, I also can get you on this one, yes it says do not ADD to these books, and I don;t care of the mormons say joseph put back what was taken out, as a christian, I believe nothign was ever taken out and that the mormons are just beleiving what the atehist say that the bible was incorrectly translated, thats like saying God is not able...that being said, Joseph smith in his footnotes in your KJV bible did add to the two book in the footnotes, especially to the book of revelations, so yea I have your back, but still you are wrong int hat joseoh added to deuteronomy and revelations

Here's the deal, as far as I'm concerned. You can put your hands on the other scriptures that didn't make it into the Bible.
You CANNOT put your hands on the so-called "golden plates" Smith SUPPOSEDLY translated.
Why would God do one thing as far as scriptures went? Why didn't he take those scriptures away as well?
Of course, Joseph Smith never dreamed that the actual manuscripts would ever be found! If he did, he might have written the BofM instead of making up some fantastic story.

well, there are some part of the bible that they consider as being non- cannon which doesn't mean that you should completely ignore all of them, some are used as references but the translators figured that they should be taken with a pinch of salt, for example the book of enoch which goes really into depth about the angels and the fall of the devil it was rejected because, while all the other books were written in hebrew that one was written in aramaic. that was not corresponding to the time and also, there were some portions that were deemed questionable. about the books of revelation, i always take it too mean that you should observe everything said as literal and the truth and not try to alter or fix anything to your own convenience, for example "thou shalt not kill" means just what it says, thou shalt not kill, not thou shalt kill sometimes if you're in the mood or, if the person insults God the n you can kill him...at least that's my interpretation ><

2 Peter 1:20 Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.
From Matthew Henry's Commentry:
It is confirmed by a most solemn sanction, condemning and cursing all who should dare to corrupt or change the word of God, either by adding to it or taking from it, Rev_22:18-19. He that adds to the word of God draws down upon himself all the plagues written in this book; and he who takes any thing away from it cuts himself off from all the promises and privileges of it. This sanction is like a flaming sword, to guard the canon of the scripture from profane hands. Such a fence as this God set about the law (Deu_4:2), and the whole Old Testament (Mal_4:4), and now in the most solemn manner about the whole Bible, assuring us that it is a book of the most sacred nature, divine authority, and of the last importance, and therefore the peculiar care of the great God.
May God bless you as you study His Word

That wall of text is typical of human interpretation of passages of Revelation. It may hold some truth but it's very tedious to glean it.

I have been into bible study 46 years and I want to be as careful as possible no to loose something or to put more there than is there, but in checking the bible for the timeline it gives, I find other get 3950, 3998, 4000, 4004, 4026, and for the life of me, I get 4066 and can not find a way to reduce it.
So this is one of the area that really bring the scriptures you have given into mind and keeps me on my toes in search for the true facts
that are so very important, as I said, I do not want to loose one thing or put one thing more tan it gives. 2Tim.2:15, John 12:47,48,
1Thes.5:1-9,21,22, as there comes a time when everything given is so very important, Dan.12:9,
The bible timeline allows us to know the time of the end, all but the day
and the hour and to be children of the light of times and seasons.

It means to not add to the end time prophesies in Revelation just like it says. LDS have added many end time prophesies. Like this one for example:
Given in 1835: "go forth and prune the vineyard for the last time, or the coming of the Lord, which was nigh - even fifty-six years should wind up the scene." (History of the Church, Vol. 2. p 182)
56 years came and went. The scene did not wind up.
That is what Revelation 22:18-19 is talking about.
In a similar way, Deuteronomy 4:2 is not talking about adding to the Bible, or to the Book of Deuteronomy. It is talking about not adding to the commands God gave. Something LDS have done also.

What Jesus means here is very simple.
We must accept the Bible just as it is without adding or subtracting from it. If we do this then we will receive all the curses from heaven, and be cast into hell.
Who today are the culprits doing this very sin?
Nearly every Church that believes in God. Most of them have adding in man made doctrines, namely, Calvin and Luther, and have subtracted from the Word also. For example: The full and complete atonement for sins according to the sacrificial system as set by God is Jesus water baptism by John, and His death on the Cross. But most Christians today have been taught by false prophets that only Christs death on the cross atones for sin??? This is blatant subtracting from Gods Word. Jesus even taught us in 1 John 5:6-11 that anyone who does this makes God out to be a liar.
Yes, we need to learn from those saints who have gone before, for they had the original and authentic gospel God originally gave to mankind. And they were sinless and holy people. This is the will of God for our lives, therefore, we too must have this same faith, otherwise we will never reach heaven.
I urge you to read our Free Christian Books which contain this original gospel.
