I'm playing Xbox Live, and I think something's wrong with my headset?

It does sort of work, I can get it to make the weird "you can't talk here" noise in free for all in Halo 3, but I've never been able to get any kind of voice. I just started Live 3 days ago, but do you need friends in order to use it, or can you just use it in matchmaking whenever you want?

Nothings Wrong, In Halo 3, when you see the "You can't talk here" icon, just hit up on the D-Pad, and talk all you want (You will hear a sound when you click the D-Pad and that means you can talk)

NOTE: after 1 second of silence, the sound will be played again which means you can't talk anymore (you just have to hit it again)

This is just a small rule is some Halo 3 Matchmaking matches.
