Taking plavix and having bad side effects?
My Doctor put me on plavix due to an injury I sustained to my carotid artery. Shortly after I started the medication, my sinuses became a problem. I can barely breath through my nose sometimes and when I clear them, a bloody clot seems to dislodge. I've contacted the Doctor but haven't heard back from him yet. I'm supposed to take more tonight, but don't want to. Any thoughts?

Your nose is full of tiny blood vessels called capillaries. In the general sense Plavix is a blood-thinner, making these capillaries more prone to leakage of small amounts of blood. Damage to the carotid has the potential for accumulating an unstable clot which could choke off carotid blood supply to the head or dislodge and travel to the brain or eye, potentially resulting in permanent damage (like blindness or stroke) or even death. Plavix keeps these clots from occuring. So while your nose congestion may be irritating and uncomfortable, the consequences of discontinuing the Plavix could be life-threatening, and I would advise you to take it until your physician contacts you.
