is he neutered? that is your first step.

Also a trip to the vet to rule out possible urinary problems is a good idea.. he may have an infection or other problem

next, supervise him more closely.. use baby gates, a crate, and a leash.. he should be in your sight at all times.. when you cant supervise, crate. When you catch him marking, correct him.

Clean all spots with a cleaner meant for pet messes.. use a black light to find hidden spots.

I don't know why you are so adament about not neutering your dog. 1) you will not get him to stop urinating/marking in the house or anywhere else as long as he is intact, especially if there are other males around 2) you are putting him at VERY high risk of some very serious even fatal illnesses by leaving him intact...and believe me they aren't things you want to put your dog through...they are very hard on the dog, can be very painful, can be financially draining for you, they are far from being uncommon, they can cost your dog his life As a vet tech I've seen far too many intact dogs suffer needlessly for health issues that could have been avoided if only there owners had been smart enough and responsible enough to have them neutered. As a trainer I've seen way too many training issues that could have either been eliminated or greatly reduced if the owner had been smart enough & responsible enough to neuter their dog. So unless your dog is a wonderful representative of his breed (as proven by showing or evaluation), has had and passed al lgenetic health testing, has a wonderful pedigree so is going ot be an important part of a planned breeding program do the smart & responsible thing and get him neutered...it will help (along with proper training ) to eliminate your issues with him. ****Lilpurple, a dog does not have to be intact to compete in any AKC events except conformation.Spay/neutered dogs can compete in ALL AKC performance events******

I always go with crate training. If you find a pee spot then tonight he will sleep in the crate. It has always worked with my dogs. It teaches them to hold it in. When you see him going outside praise him. Most dogs catch on after a while. Of course I am sure you already know but make sure he goes outside when needed.

If it is really a problem and crate training does not help then I would get a chain for the back yard and leave him on it during the day when your not with him.

And of course like everybody else said neutering him would be a good thing if you have not already done it.

I also noticed that my two labradors I did not even have to do the crate training I just put their nose in it and gave them a lil slap on the butt. (That hurt their feelings way more then it did their rumps!) My toy dogs didnt get the hint though.

To be honest with you, lifting is one of the hardest things to stop especially if he has been doing this for 5 years. YOU MUST use a enzyme dissolving solution to clean the areas (Simple Solution, Natures Miracle) Keeping him kenneled when you can't watch him is key and monitoring water intake is extremely important. If you know when it goes in you will know when it has to come out. Make him pee several times outside before he comes in, male dogs hold their unrine for marking....and get yourself a good dog trainer.

    This is hard to do..

I hope he is neutered.. if not start there.. then if u can not put him out as u leave for work, then crate him.. locking a dog in the bathroom can be disastrous.. ,,

they can tear ur room UP while you are gone.. it is better to crate..

but you have to keep a eye on him ever second when you are home.. and reprimand him badly.. each and every time.. it will take a while. it takes Patience's..

    good luck

Go to www.petedge.com and buy boy wraps, it's like a diaper for males to help stop the marking.

Is he neutered? If not, that is the reason. If you have him fixed, the marking should decrease dramatically, if not stop at all.

    Good Luck!

Please don't rub his nose in it. What this will do is cause him to fear the combination of you and urine, and he will go out of his way to do it when you're not around.

What Nekkid bootie said is a great answer.
