Someone who thinks that the Bible says the Earth is flat: Please respond!?

I just saw someone post something saying that the Bible says the Earth is flat. Can someone explain to me why people think that?

The only thing I can think of is the passages that talk about the 'corners of the Earth.' But that's ridiculous because everyone uses that metaphor (or whatever it is), and that's all it is in the Bible.

Isa 40:22 It is he that sitteth upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretcheth out the heavens as a curtain, and spreadeth them out as a tent to dwell in:

Didn't the BIble say you could see all of Earth from a single point (a mountain?)

    And...

"Job 9:6. "Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the

    pillars thereof tremble."

I Samuel 2:8. "..for the pillars of the earth are the Lord's,

and he hath set the world upon them."

These passages clearly teach flat earth theology. No

Not that it matters what is the point in arguing, it's like trying to argue the Quran that says mountains are 'pegs', or the Bible that says bats are birds, or that 'stars (suns) fall to Earth' (how many suns have fallen to earth?) or that the Earth is the center of the Universe.

oh, so sometimes it's a metaphor, but sometimes it's literal, whenever it's convenient?

"He set the earth on its foundations; it can never be moved. (From the NIV Bible, Psalm 104:5)"

"The sun rises and the sun sets, and hurries back to where it rises. (From the NIV Bible, Ecclesiastes 1:5)"

"that it might take the earth by the edges and shake the wicked out of it? (From the NIV Bible, Job 38:13)"

Yes, I saw that ignorant comment, too. Just ignore it; we all know the Scriptures tell us the earth is round.

EDIT: Priscilla, the Isaiah Scroll (which states the earth is round), which was found with the Dead Sea Scrolls, pre-dates Ptolemy by hundreds of years. So it's not as if our Scriptures were copying this concept from someone else.

Actually, the idea that a substantial amount of people at any point in history believed the earth was flat is disputable.. since Ptolemy, educated people have always known the earth was round
