What on earth happened to the Real World?

I was of the first generation of the Real World on MTV. I was so impressed with them tackling so many issues, such as acceptance, racism, homosexuality, AIDS (RIP Pedro), but now, all it is about is sex and being naked on camera. I wanna know what the hell happened? Real World used to be so amazing. I understand naked ppl get ratings, but there is only so many times you can see the same thing before it gets old. It used to be so socially aware and now, it shows nothing of substance. Why the change? Is this a true reflection of what the "real world" for 20 somethings?

Update:

I just think it is insane. I see this stuff, and as a 23 year old, I am wondering if I am just an old fart and people really act like this at my age or if I am normal and they are just insane.

    In the first few seasons (pretty much up till the Seattle season) the cast members didn't know what to expect going into the show so they were pretty much being themselves. In later seasons everyone on the show wanted the spot light so they became more extreme in there actions.

    i agree with the last guy, everyone just wants their 15 mins of fame and this probably seems like the easiest way to get it.. plus now they can go on challenges, and have more time to be on tv and possibly get money
