Can someone give me step by step instructions on how to back up my computer files on blank DVDs?

My computer is coming back from repair and I was told I would have to do this.

    Well it's pretty easy.

First, you need to be sure you have a DVD reader/writer.

Then, you pop in the dvd. Windows SHOULD ask you what you would like to do with the disk.

Press the option to view in a folder. Or press Cancel, open My Computer, and select the disc manually.

Then drag and drop any important emails, documents, songs, movies, pictures, pretty much anything that you need.

Finally, press Write These Files To A CD/DVD and follow the wizard.

That should work. That's what I do.

First you need to have a dvd drive if you do good. ( if you have an external hard driver better)

    For Vista

go to start search bar and type backup

    select Back up Files

    insert your blank dvd

    click next

make sure all the selections or marked click next

if you want to create a schedule you can set when you want it to back up after this one. click save setting and start back up.

    For xp..

you should get an external drive you will have to do this all by hand if you do not.

right click on your desk top and go new > folder name it Backup (date)

move the files you want saved to the folder from your my documents and on the desktop and anywhere else you saved them.

one it hits 3gb and you can check this in the properties. by right clicking on the backup folder you created and select properties. you will need to create a new folder called backup1 (date) and continue until you reach 3gb and do the same until you have all your files in the folders. ( a dvd can only hold about 3gb unless it is multilayer)

insert the dvd and open it drag the back up folder into it and then hit the write to dvd button in the top corner of the window. do the same until all folders are done.

if you get an external they come with software most of the time or you can just copy everything to it and your done.
