My English Bulldog is CONSTANTLY irritated and sheds like crazy, but every vet says something different, help?

My English Bulldog is always running around the house running in to things, rubbing its butt on the floor, rubbing its ears against things, and sheds like crazy. There is a very strong infection odor coming off of him. There is also a red tip on his 'thing' that is a different color than the rest of it. Some vets wanted to chop the tip of it off, some say that is crazy. Some doctors say its all due to food allergies, so we've tried tonsss of food. One doctor wanted to cut off his tail saying it was growing into his butt causing his butt irritation, while others say that is crazy. His ears are constantly bothering him no matter what medication the vet gives us. Have any of you had similar problems with your english bulldog and what did you do? Please help

I suggest food allergies, environmental allergies ( like the carpet fibers) maybe allergies to the laundry detergent you use, does he sleep on a cedar filled dog bed? anything and everything can be the culprit to your dogs agonizing allergies.

Most dog food out there is made from practically the same crappy ingredients. I would try a great food like Wysong Allercin (you will need a prescription from your vet in order to purchase this food). Your dogs body will need to detox from the other foods he's been feed, results won't be immediately, so stick with the food. If you haven't seen positive changes in 3-4 months then it must be something in his environment that is causing his allergies.

It sounds more like food allergies...what have you tried? I would go with a grain free diet. That means no CORN, WHEAT or SOY! Corn sometimes causes ear infections, they can't digest corn and it's a very cheap filler. Wheat is a big cause of allergies. I would try a Fish and Sweet Potato diet. I know Wellness and California Natural makes those kinds. I would try that for a month, see if he gets any better.

    go to www.dogfoodanalysis.com

Science Diet, Iams, Purina won't do any help with the allergies, for they have the grains, meat by-products and animal fat.

Hopefully he's ok. And the vets that said to chop it off or to dock his tail doesn't need to be in the vet field....that's scarey!!! Good luck!

You can find out what's wrong by a process of elimination. I've seen this with bulldogs because of fabric softeners it's owner was wearing on his clothes.

    Things to experiment with:

    1) Dietary reasons: Make sure you are feeding your dogs MEAT, dogs are carninars NOT vegetarians. That mean NO rice, corn or any other unnatural feed. RAW meat is best for dogs PERIOD!

    2) Coat Issues: Shampoos

    3) Allegories

Butt - have the anal glands expressed and check for worms

Ears - check for ear mites or yeast infection in the ear

Body - do a skin scrape and test for allergies. If you don't know for sure you need to quit changing foods. Pick ONE food (Royal Canin for English Bulldog or Blue Buffalo) and see if that works (it may take a month to see a difference) if it doesn't then switch him to something with lamb and rice. In the meantime bath him in some anti-itch shampoo with aloe *for itching*. Check for mange as well.
