Co-ordinate geometry help.?

This was on an exam paper that I did a few months ago. I don't know the answer, because the answer scheme for this paper is not out yet. Anyway, I cannot figure it out nor can my peers, so I thought I would post it here.

    y = x + 4 can be rearranged as x - y + 4 = 0

    distance = (k - 2 + 4) / squrt of (1^2 + 1^2)

    4 = (k + 2) / sq root of 2

    therefore k + 2 = 4 * sq root of 2

    k = (4 * sq root of 2) - 2

    k = 2 ( 2 * sq root of 2 - 1) or - 2 ( 2 * sq root of 2 + 1)
