Why don't I feel better?

OK, so I've been suffering from anxiety and panic disorder for about 5 years, and after alot of therapy and medication I've made alot of progress in the last couple of years. Today I faced the ultimate challenge- a whole days training course miles away from home. I'd been nervous for weeks, and although I had 5 minutes of feeling very anxious and panicky, I managed to stick with it and stay it out. I thought I'd come home feeling great, and proud, but instead I just feel numb, emotional, and can't stop focussing on those 5 minutes, even though I handled the rest of the day well. What's wrong with me?! x

We find it easier to focus on the negatives instead of giving ourselves praise. I always do that! Just keep telling yourself that you did really well today and if this happened a year ago you probably wouldn't of even gone right?! So praise yourself that you went and you stayed. Also remember everyone feels anxious at times and mainly when they have a course or have to speak in public so having a little bit of anxiety is normal but letting it take over your life isn't but you managed to push that anxiety away and stay on the course so well done you.

Also you may be feeling down because you had a difficult day and you are probably tired and stressed from it so have a nice bath and go to bed and relax, you deserve it!! Well done x

Well done for getting out there and doing the course!

A lot of people suffer from anxiety and it can over take your whole life if not treated sympathetically. I note that you have taken medication in the past but you don't say if you are taking it currently. I suggest you discuss this with your doctor as soon as possible. You may be feeling numb and over emotional because what you have done today seems like a milestone, but there are many other days to come where you will feel slightly anxious, it is perfectly normal.

Hope this helps and you feel better soon!

I think you are being too hard on yourself. You stayed through the whole training. You can pat yourself on the back for doing so. You are very much in control of yourself. You were panicky but you didn't let it get the best of you. Congratulations!!! Your hard work in therapy has paid off. Keep on taking charge of each stressful situation. Best Wishes.

you probably stressed yourself out by doing that BUT the more you do stuff like that the more easier it will become. just by having that anxiety for 5 mins it has stuck with you. i know its so hard to shake off that feeling. i can have a panic attack and still feel that feeling for day after.

just relax. i used to be like that, always getting panic attacks etc. eventually i ended up always thinking "well what's the worst that could happen?" take a deep breath, put your feet up and chill.
