What happens to candle wax?

When a candle burns down, where does the wax go? There's no ash and no smoke. Just an empty wick holder and candle tray. Does wax become a gas when it's burnt up?

Update:

Michelle:

The candle is gone after it burns away. No solid, no liquid, nothing.

It has nothing to do with taking up space.

Wax is a hydrocarbon, so it burns like fuel. When it reacts with air it produces water vapor and carbon dioxide. Which you can't see.
