Places like Edmonds Scientific will sell these
You can use new coins. If you live in the US, a new penny weighs 2.5g,
a nickel 5g, a quarter 5.67g, one of the new dollars is 8.1g.
These are quite accurate, I bet within a percent or two. You can get new coins at a bank. Just stack up, say 200 nickels to get 1 kg, and tape them together.
You can always ask your teacher to check your 1kg weight against the school standard.
If you are not in the US, you can use your coins, and look up their weight.
to get smaller weights, find some pieces of wire, and trim one until it exactly balances a penny. that means it is 2.5 grams. divide it into 5 equal lengths, and cut it. Each is then 0.5 gram.
