    substitute in the values and work out the inverses etc

  • 1 decade ago

    rearrange the equation to get

    1/v = 1/f - 1/u

    then put in the values to find 1/v

    then divide 1 by this answer to get v

    or you can put the values into this equation:

    v= (fu)/(u-f)

    1/u + 1/v = 1/f

    1/v = 1/f-1/u

    1/v = (u-f)/(uf)

    take the inverse of both sides

    v=uf/(u-f)

    (v + u) / (uv) = 1/f

    f = (uv) / (v + u)
