I'm building a new computer, what OS should I get?

I'm building a computer with an Intel quad 64 bit Q9500 and 8GB of mem and I'm trying to figure out what OS should I get? VISTA 64bit? XP 64bit? or just Linux 64bit till Windows 7 comes out?

VISTA 32bit suxs for as much as I have tried, I have not tried VISTA 64bit. I have heard depending on when you get VISTA you may get Windows 7 for free, is that true?

Does XP-64 work with a lot of apps? and for every day stuff?

or should I get Linux for now and wait till Win7 comes out?

or XP-32 bit (I have a copy) for now and only run on 3GB of mem and do win7 when it comes out

I have Win7 beta to try but that's not a permanent solution or safe for my data lol.

What would you do?

    1. Microsoft is going to quit supporting XP within a year or two like they did with Windows 2000.

    2. Vista has so many problems so I would strongly advise against it.

    3. I would get a 64-bit operating system without a doubt because when you are forced to run more than three gigabytes of ram because of advancing technology, you will have to buy the operating system again. You can't just upgrade for free. They are totally different discs and you cannot trade them out.

    4. You should never run only 3 gigabyte of ram because when you don't have an even number of ram sticks, the dual channel feature is shut down and it slows down your ram. Nothing tells you that this is a problem. It is just life. You should always have 2 identical sticks of ram.

    -Bad:

    1 2gigabyte stick; 1 1gigabyte stick

    3 1gigabyte sticks

    -Good

    2 2gigabyte sticks; 2 1gigabyte sticks

    4 1/2gigabyte sticks

-Manufacturers get away with putting 3 gigabytes of ram in a system because no one knows any better.

    5. I would recommend waiting for Windows 7. The Beta is more stable than Vista so it will be amazing. It is virtually flawless and less of a resource hog. So get Windows 7 64-bit.

I love Linux and will not try Windows 7 if I can possibly avoid it, however, if you are thinking about Windows 7 I would say go with the beta AND BACK UP YOUR DATA.

Your Linux experience would depend on which distro you get, and I certainly can't tell you which would work best for you. XP-64 never quite worked out the kinks until they decided to abandon it, and while most apps run on it, there are a few which don't run well.

For data integrity, I have to say, back up early and often no matter what youu do.

or linux. both good but linux requires HOURS AND HOURS of searching on the internet for useless **** you need to run other useless ****
