Don’t throw away old things that seem like junk now – turn them into something new and useful! Upcycling saves money and helps the environment. Check out these fun ideas:

    1. Turn old floppy disks into a fun and funky desk or table planter. These are fun to make, a great gift for your nerdy friends and 90s fanatics and add a cool burst of retro color.

    2. Make a vertical, hanging window garden by using empty K-Cups (or yogurt cups?) and string to decorate with plants in an office, kitchen or apartment window using minimal components to create a big visual impact.

    3. Super durable and recycled, a braided rug made from old t-shirts or cotton materials can be customized in any color scheme. While this may be one of the more time consuming projects we’ve seen, the end result is totally worth the effort.

    4. Don’t waste money on expensive plant markers, make them from wine corks and bamboo skewers instead. No more trying to remember which seeds are planted where; these are functional and keep the garden looking great.

    5. An excellent way to make cute, inexpensive decorations for your table, recycled cans can be painted and customized with numbers, place settings or pretty patterns. Simply pop in an old tea light candle or a Dot-it light for gorgeous illumination.

I saw a pattern for making bags out of plastic bags--you cut the plastic bags into strips and then braid them into larger, stronger, reusable bags. Do a google search and see if you can come up with this one--it sounded easy.
