cost of living vietnam?
A friend of mine will be working in Vietnam next summer.
He will ahve to pay for utilities, but he won't be paying for rent
his salary AFTER TAX will be 31,383,000. that is 1800 usd a month after tax. He will be working in the capital city.
It seems to me a very good salary especially as he isn't paying for rent.
I would like to hear from people who live there or have been there.
also, how big a problem is crime there. I've heard there is alot of hostility towards american people but not so muchtowards British people(he is British)

That salary is pretty high, and the cost of living is low, so your friend sure won't have to worry :).
About crime, if you mean minor ones like theft, it can be quite common. But if he's careful, he'll be fine. I've lived here all my life of 18 years and have never been a victim of one :)
And living in VN, he won't have to worry about terrorism :)). Nothing gets blown up here like in the US or even some neighbor countries.
Hostility should be the last thing to expect, since he'll be living in Hanoi. Vietnamese people in general doesn't hold anything against Americans anymore, especially those in big cities :). And your friend is even not American, so he'll be alright :)).

I lived in Hanoi for two years and loved every day of it. Food is very inexpensive as is clothing . Travel in country is cheap as is travel to Bangkok and other neighboring cities. Your friend is making enough money to have a nice stay .
There is almost no crime there and almost never to a foreigner.
Vietnamese in the major cities love / love Americans. 70% of the people are under 30 so for them the War is history, something their fathers and grandfthers talk about. They talk about "American "quality" (good) and "American " time (punctual) I have heard that in the smaller villages in the South where the horror of the War was the worst there are anti Amrican feelings. But from my personal experience I could not have been more welcomed.
I loved Vietnam and the Vietnamese.

whats a british lb ?some million.50 us??.. lodging for the "backpacker set" is approximately $7-$20 us reckoning on what cities your in ..nha tran , sai gon, hoi an..distinctly affordable..ha noi slightly greater high priced.. foodstuff is relating to an identical cost throughout... highway foodstuff[you're able to desire to sidestep this on maximum events] is next to no longer something ..vacationer style eating places ; 3meals could desire to cost you much less $15 an afternoon with drinks..something different than a vacationer visa is confusing.. whether in case you pass to a vacationer section ,say nha trang , pass right into a vacationer bar , say the sail club, tell them your subject[i'm seeking to hold out artwork slightly for some months] they could permit you artwork around the bar doing extraordinary chores.. they wont pay you lots [if something , yet they could get you a unfastened room and board and so on... i comprehend a newborn that did that approximately 8 years in the past and my hand to God , he now runs the region!

the cost of living is not very high, and it doesn't matter if you're american or british. Don't tell them that you're from another country, because they will rob you
