Teen sleeping disorders...?

I'm almost positive I have some sort of sleeping disorder like insomnia but I'm definitely not trying to diagnose myself. I can never sleep when I want to. I'll lay in bed for hours and although I'm so tired I can't fall asleep. When I come home from school I'm so exhausted I tend to just pass out. My sleeping cycle is definitely off. I'll fall asleep at around 4pm and then wake up at around 10pm. I'll usually stay awake until I need to get ready for school the next day. Is this something I should seek medical help for?

If you can keep yourself awake after school, try to. I think that might be contributing to your nighttime insomnia.

If you can't keep yourself awake, though, I'd go to your doctor and see if they can help you with some melatonin or something. Do NOT self-treat with sleep aids, they can be highly addictive and problematic.

I had trouble sleeping (couldn't fall asleep until like 12 or 1 AM and then would wake up at 5) when I was about 14-17. It seemed to correct itself by about senior year, but then college wacked it up again.
