If I marry will MY Social Security benifits change?

> I have been on Social Security for 23 years now and plan on tyin' the knot, what I need ta' know: Will my monthly benefits/checks be affected ie., decrease in amount$ because of me marrying? I personally do not think that they will but, was hopin' ta' get some feedback from others on Answers. Have tried ta' get in touch with the d _ _ n Social Security Administration, ya' know as in a' person and not a recording but, it be like tryin ta' land a' 50lb., Chinook Salmon with sewin' thread attached to a' twig and no reel ~ IMPOSSIBLE...

> As before (when I've posted non-fishin' questions) I'm more than aware that this be the fishin' department but as I've said, "I feel that I can relate/convey a' Lot better in this category than in others. Pre-thanks are in order ;)... < ' ( (( > <.

Note: I realize that be a' pretty nutty analogy but what can I say ;),,,

Update:

wild_jkr if ya' really would like ta' know, it is not a joke ~ it is a very serious and valid question... Howwwwever, I was prepaired for the like's of your kind ta' run off at the mouth with your fingers... One of these days I'll come ta' grips with myself and face the fact that there a ones like yourself still crawlin' around......

Update 2:

Bobby,

My speaking is quite normal when it comes to a one-on-one, face to face conversation, howwwever, when I use keyboards to converse, that be the exception to the rule ~ you know as in, it's a' habit... As for my takin' some monie$ and usin' it for English lessons, maybe you should give some thought to some lessons yourself ie., it is better known as GRAMMAR...

Nope, ain't 85 buttttt, sure as H _ _ l hope I make it that far ;) ;)...

Update 3:

Here I go again ie., passin' the votin' stage of this on to others, however thumbs up and MUCHO' thanks go out to all, with the exception of them

"crawlers" of course ("crawlers", I ain't inta' the thumbs downin' scene so ya' don't have to get all rowdy and stuff;))... Again, thumbs up to ya' and I/we thank you for the Congrats :) :)...

> Cheeet' almost forgot ~ nope it will not affect the SS per say, "The horse's mouth" ;)...

Ha', one other thing, this lady and I have been ta'gether 15 years now, soooooo I honestly don't think I'll have a' govener put on my fishin'... lol Tight lines to ya'... ~Me

    First congratulations !!

As far as the SS question, NO it will not go down but if you refile your claim (be very careful and think about it first) it will go up sense you will have a added dependent.

Writes out a free Fishing Trip for the newly weds.......IF THEY EVER GET BACK TO MY NECK OF THE WOODS. LMAO

As I recall, speaking with my Mom & Dad, (my Dad turns 65 this Oct and my Mom turned 65 last year), there should be no change in your Soc security if you get married, (esp if you have already been receiving benefits). (Ugh, not to jinx you, if you own a home and such and she has holdings and such ya'll might talk about a Pre-nup....)

    Anywho.

By the way, you old DOG, CONGRATULATIONS!

    My LORD! What great news!

Ya'll best be honeymoon'in in the Keys ! Or, better yet, St. Augustine, Fla!

St. Augustine is absolutely my favorite place to visit and vacation. It's a great "romantic" area that is "whimsical" and "private", (for when the Wife & me manage to get away and have "adult time") and yet if you want to site-see, shop, fish, go to the beach or be "surrounded by people" it's only a step away.

If you get a chance, look up St. A online.......if you decide you want to go shoot me an email. I can give you the super-serious "low-down" as to where to eat, shop, fish, site-see, Etc.

    That's my old stompin' grounds.

"50LB Salmon with sewin' thread attached to a twig and no reel"

    (lol)

    That is a classic!

Just try not to figit with that shotgun in your back at the wedding, (IE-"Shotgun wedding!) (teasin' ya!)

    Seriously, congrats Bro!

Fish..Congrats, finally caught a keeper huh? ; ) It's great news, I wish you both the best for all time.

As to your question, there could be a situation.

Your benefits could stay the same and nothing changes. This depends on what your partner brings to the table as far as income and assets. Besides that, refiling or claiming another person could stall up your checks and put you in a pickle.

The best advice I could give you is to stop calling the S.S. department and get some legal advice. You can get free legal advice through legal aid services in your area. It's either that or go directly to S.S. and get your question answered if you have a day to spend.

All in all, I wouldn't sweat it too much, if anything, you will be with the one you love for all time. ~good luck catchin.'

It will depend on if the new spouse wants to control the $ tackle box, now me thinks that if fishin is a high priority for you then I hope it is equally shared by your new honey, honey do lists can also effect the bottom line sinker as well. better check those details out first before tying any not you can't wriggle out of. Good Luck!

I have talked to Social Security in person and on the telephone several times. It is not that hard to do if you are persistent I doubt very much if your benefits will decrease. Are you 85, or have you been drawing early benefits for all this time??? Maybe you could use some of those payments to pay for some English lessons.
