What quality art projects can I teach for Summer Camp-ages 9-15?

I need to teach a religious camp art class for a week. Problem is the projects don't always excite the kids and they don't always make it home because they're so boring and lack a challenge to create. How do I please 9-15 yr olds?

Is there a wall where they can paint a mural? Or else you could have them make a big banner together. Have them decide on a theme, then talk about some of the images and ideas that fit that them. Divide your wall or banner into sections so it gets covered evenly. If you are doing a banner, you could also use some fabric glue or baste things to the banner with craft thread. You might even have them bring in objects like buttons or broken costume jewelry to use.

Go buy two books. One is the "Art Teacher's Book of Lists" by Hume. It'll give you some great ideas. Also find "Art Synectics" by Roukes. It has some interesting ideas also.
