Speed up XP boot without losing fonts?
Hi,
I'm trying to speed up my XP boot times by not loading all my fonts initially. However, I need almost all of them for design projects. So, I'm wondering if there's a way to delay the loading of the fonts, or move them to a different spot but still have access to them without manually installing them each time?
If you have any suggestions, I'd appreciate them. Even some whacky automated script to run when I need to run a design program would be tolerable. Thanks.
hi guys - I know how to do the other things like remove programs from loading - but I have so many fonts I'm hoping to find a solution to that specific load time. thanks.

I have no idea how to do what you're describing, but there are other ways to speed up XP boot times.
Video codecs also slow boot times, so if you've got any codec packs installed you could remove those and just install the ones that you use the most often (XviD and DivX usually for downloaded videos).
Or just install VLC media player which has all the codecs bundled in the program so they don't have to load from the OS.
Also, uninstall any bloatware that loads to the system tray or is in Start - Programs - Startup. You can also use a program to prevent processes from loading that aren't needed by the OS (there's usually a half dozen or so that are just system services for just * in case * you start the programs that they reference).
You can find out which ones are unnecessary by hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del and clicking on the Processes tab, then End Process on each one (things that are required for Windows to run will not allow you to end the process, all others will just give a warning).

I don't know about that, but there's other things you can do. First, disable all unneeded services.

And then try some of these XP performance tweaks.

Good luck.
