Im pregnant, and the doctor is scaring me! gave me bad news after bad news.. what should i do?
Ill try to make this short. im 19 weeks preg. and my doctor has me stressing out. I have had one ultrasound (which it only took the tech around 10mins to do it) and he told me he couldnt see alot of things so we had to do another one soon. i went to the doc yesterday and he told me i had a complete placenta (which the tech told me he couldnt find the placenta) and that they cant see the noise which means it might have a cleft lip. and so much more. but they didnt sche. another ultrasound till the 16th of march! and they will not let me do another one sooner. (i know someone who has the same due date as me and shes had 4 ultra sounds already and everything is fine with her)
anyway im really stressing out because he just gave me bad news after bad news and doesnt seem to care or anything. and i know its not healthy for me to be this stressed but i cant even stop crying. what should i do?

Honestly stress wont harm your baby unless you have a high risk pregnancy or have had a preterm baby already. Sounds like your doctor knows what he's talking about. Just calm down. Everyone gets bad news or weird scary information when they're pregnant... because anything can happen. Hopefully eveything will be ok. At 20 weeks they usually do a screening for birth defects though, so you should have that coming, if you wanted it... it should help calm any anxiety you may have. If worst comes to worst then change doctors... Im 27 weeks pregnant w a high risk baby and have only had 2 ultrasounds. For a normal low risk pregnancy 2 are normal for the entire pregnancy. Good luck!

Did you perhaps mean complete placenta previa? This would be an indication for a c-section. If they were just not able to see all of the placenta I would not worry, sometimes if you get someone that is inexperienced at doing ultrasounds they might not know what they are actually seeing. If you have complete placenta previa, this is not uncommon, it just means that you will have to be more careful, avoid having sex because it can cause bleeding. Don't be lifting heavy things and avoid strenuous exercise. This condition may resolve as the baby gets bigger and the uterus expands.
If they can't see the baby's nose? I really don't know why they would be particularly looking its nose. They should have been focused on head and body measurements, besides the baby may have had its head turned away from the probe.
Sounds like you really got an idiot for a doctor and an ultrasonographer that does not have walking around sense. I would find a different doctor that would talk to you about your concerns. If a doctor will not explain their findings to give you peace of mind, get a new one.
I would not panic. Sounds like everything will be fine, just find a different doctor and tell them what has been going on. I am sure they will do another ultrasound and be able to tell you that the baby is fine. There very well may be complete placenta previa, which does require a c-section if it does not resolve before time for delivery, but a good OB-GYN will be able to explain this to you and tell you the precautions to take.
Good luck and best wishes.

More ultrasounds is not necessarily better. Some doctors do them for no reason, which is not really recommended. However, I would think they would spend a little more than 10 minutes doing one. At mine (18w) I was told to expect it to last an hour, which might be a little long - but certainly more than 10 minutes.
Try not to worry ... the day will get here soon enough. And it really doesn't change much about your pregnancy at this point. Sometimes knowing these things ahead of time only makes it more stressful for your pregnancy, which you definitely do not need. If the baby does have cleft palate, it's totally treatable, keep that in mind. And a lot of plancetal problems can totally resolve themselves during pregnancy, so try not to worry too much.
Good luck.

10 mins sees really short. I would switch doctors if at all possible. A cleft lip is a big deal. They usually have you go in right away for another ultrasound with a more experienced tech and doctor. Call your doctor and express your concern abnout the situation and see if there is anything they could do for you... I mean they may be able to switch you with another woman who is just going in for a routine ultrasound if its making an appt. thats a problem.

Find another doc.!!! Go to a clinic if you have to. This Doc. is a total ***. First off your ultra sounds are early. He/She is prob. just fine. There are tons of test that can be done. If your really freeked out then spend the money on a 4D ultra sound. You can see everything! I had one done at 26 weeks and my baby looks just like me!! Your right, you need to stop stressing and not worry about it. Find another OB or talk to the one you have and make him listen. He has to know your what your thinking and how your taking the news taht he is giving you. He could be full of crap and just not explaining stuff to you correctly!!! I would still seek a new OB or OB office, if nothing else just to confirm that everything just to give you peace of mind!

Okay, stressing out about all this doesn't make it better for you or your baby. They probably don't want to do another one until March so that they can see everything better because the baby will be bigger. A lot of times on ultrasounds, things aren't very clear so they are telling you what MIGHT be wrong...but if we worry about everything that MIGHT happen we would never get anything accomplished in life!! Ultrasounds aren't very reliable (they told me I was having a boy because they could clearly see a penis, and were we all surprised when my DAUGHTER was born!!), so relax and don't stress! Everything will be okay!

It all depends on the Dr. If you are not comfortable with the care you are receiving demand more from your Dr. or seek another provider.
No one wants to hear that there may be a defect with their unborn baby. Try to relax and if the worse scenario is a cleft lip, that is treatable after birth. I have a cousin who was born with a cleft lip & palate. She had surgery as a newborn & looks fine!
Good Luck!

Understand something, when it comes to pregnancy and doctors, ANY signs of slight complication and they will give you ALL worst case scenarios.
They will drill these scenario's into your head until your terrified, but they are all SLIGHT possiblities.
Me and my wife had most of the same scares, and Ultra sound delays.
Dont stress, the stress will only worsen your issues. Trust me when I say if it was truly serious, they wouldnt have you wait.
At this time, just take it easy. Relax. If complications arise, go into the hospital, otherwise wait for your next ultrasound.

The baby might make it, miracles do happen. I would wait, just to see. Please keep up on your prenatal vitamins and eat healthy but don't stress to much it's just making it even worse. Don't be to active, don't do any heavy lifting and please try not to stress. If there's any way that baby is going to make it, it's not going to be with your under stress. Edit: Don't listen to the person who said because of this it's probably going to have some kind of mental or physical problem. That's 100% NOT true. My best friend had a problem like this at the beginning of her pregnancy back last year and she gave birth to a 100% healthy baby boy with no problems what so ever. Please don't allow that to brain-wash you into taking away this baby's life.

i would ask for 2nd opinions or get your doctor changed. similar thing happened to me and i vowed to listen to my own instincts from then on.
also i heard a story of a friend of a friend who recently had to abort her baby because the doctors said every part of their internal organs were on the outside of its body and would not survive, when the baby had been aborted turned out the doctor was wrong there was minimal problems with the baby (ithink it was a kidney on the outside) the baby would of survived. just goes to show these tests arnt always right anyway and can sometimes do more bad than good
good luck xx
