Who else played the KILLZONE 2 demo?

I played the Killzone 2 yesterday. When I played it the graphics were the best ever on a console. I liked the controls. It's easy to get used to. I thought using R3 to aim would be weird but when I figured out that it stays in aim and you have to press R3 again to get out of aim.

The AI is the best I have seen also. I went to go flank this Helghast and another Helghast came up behind me and I had to retreat. Also, I also died a couple of times. Even when I used the rocket launcher to kill some Helghast, some of them dodged it. They knew it was coming. When I shoot at them they take cover.

As for the cover system its very useful. It's a great idea. It's handy when you are about to die. I also like the idea that you have 1 primary gun, 1 pistol, and some grenades. It makes it feel so more realistic. You also have a knife if some of you didnt notice, so thats 2 melee weapons, your gun and your knife. That is way better. Also I was having fun when I ran away from the Helghast and I stared at a wall. I saw my shadow and started jumping.

There are some options that allow you to take off the HUD. So I did that. I took everything off the screen including the crosshair. It looked like a movie or a trailer, but it felt way more better. The only thing I couldn't do was shoot. Cause I had no crosshair, so it's harder to shoot. I actually like it without HUD. I don't wanna see my ammo. I could live without it.

Though the demo is only canpaign I still can't wait to try out the online fragfest!

In all, the demo was awesome and was better than the Resident Evil 5 demo.

Update:

good idea.

LOL, you and Emraan wrote so much for a 15min demo!

This isn't an insult, but a praise =)

    ---------

AI: Yes, they were good. I like how some jumped out of the way of the rocket and grenade. They used the cover system as a human would most of the time.

I loved taking off the HUD. I have good accuracy, anyways & theres

auto aim, and I usually just let Sev automatically reload.

The controls and gameplay was much slower than a regular FPS. What I mean is, the sensitivity was lower (but adjustable, I like default), the walking was slower, and Sev moves kinda shaky. If there is an explsion you will react to it. If you get shot you will shake. It makes you feel the "weight"(not sure if ya know what I mean). For CoD players, put the controls on Alt 2.

    I loved the lighting effects.

Gotta say the cover system and "Lean and peak" is great for 1st person.

The characters are ugly, though and too much unnessesary cussing. The ending cutscene was awesome lol.

To start off, the opening was just pure badass flying into the level. I mean we've all seen it on our computers, but seeing it on a 42" LCD 1080p is something completely different and mind blowing. Which is where I'll start, the graphics are mind-boggling. The game looks amazing, especially if you are playing in 1080p, you are in for a treat. Now, I'm sure there will be people complaining about the textures and how some are just low res etc. But you honestly can't tell because you are moving so quickly through the intense action, you don't even have time to pay attention. Now, if you just sit around and look for things to complain about, you will find them, but if you are actually playing the game, you won't have any complaints.

Gameplay. The gameplay is delightful, in particular, if you like the FPS Genre. It is a lot of fun, and the guns (only used a few obviously) were all slick, and had their differences. The game is locked at 30fps, and if you've played games like CoD 4: MW, Half-Life (on PC) and other shooters (namely on PC), it does feel a bit slower, but not enough to make it an unenjoyable experience at all, and that is the truth. So, if you are used to games like CoD 4: MW and fast-paced games (like Timesplitters as well), you may be a tad disappointed. The enemy AI is another thing I thought was very decent. When you get inside the warehouse area, they willl outflank you and use multiple routes to pwn your ***. They take cover, blindfire, and aren't complete nitwits (so far at least). The cover system utilized in the game is also very cool. Grant it, it is a bit weird at first getting used to locking yourself up to something then peaking out and then aiming as well. It does take some getting used to, but again, if you play alot of FPS's and don't completely suck, you will pick up on it in no time.

Sound/Music. Wow, this part of the game is pure badass. If you are playing with a decent sound setup (speakers/receiver), live it up! The music and sound effects are roaring and in your face. The opening battle was awesome and intense. It was like a futuristic D-day from Saving Private Ryan. There is chaos going on, and the sound/music is perfect. The music score is awesome, fitting the game immaculately. The sound of gunfire, squad mates, grenades and explosions is incredible. This game has a very high production value.

Controls. I felt this part was the weakest. The controls are a little sluggish, especially if you play FPS's such as CoD, Half-Life 1/2 etc. When you move left and right to aim and swing around corners, you can sense the unresponsiveness of the controls. I'll use CoD 4: MW as an example yet again, (I'm not saying CoD 4: MW is faultless, merely using it as a comparison factor, that's all), like how you can hold the run down, run in/out of areas, whip around corners, quickly zoom in and pull off accurate shots taking out 3-4 people in seconds. This seems a lot harder to accomplish in this game, due to the sluggishness. Even when you're messing about with the sensitivity settings, the initial movement is slow, then pulls fast (when you have the sensitivity up). It can be jarring to get precise shots on an enemy, especially if they are in cover. I discovered the easiest way for me was the standard sensitivity and possibly 1 or 2 bumps up, but no higher. The only issue with the standard sensitivity is that you will go around corners and turn slower, but it makes aiming down the scope for accurate shots simpler. This is my assessment on the controls, and from reading others responses, I'm not alone.

Overall, this game is pure nectarous. A breath of fresh air from the shooters I've been playing since last year (GoW 2, CoD 4: MW, CoD: WaW), and I, for one, will be playing this game for quite some time, because it's that much entertaining. The graphics, sound/music and gameplay easily make up for the unresponsive controls. When I say unresponsive, I don't mean that they are broken. I'm sure that when I play the game more, I'll adjust to it completely and then have no complaints whatsoever. It's just the initial first few plays of the game that will rub you this way. When the full game comes out, I know for a fact, that I will be pulling off head shots, and pwning faces in no time. So for those who don't have the demo, this game is what we've been waiting for and more and this is just from playing a quick level in the demo. I can't imagine how awesome the multiplayer experience will be, since all the reviewers are saying it's better than the single player.

    Good luck.

I played it like 15 times, its so short and such a tease lol,

It looks absolutely gorgeous, the ai is friggin smart.

Cant wait for online, this game is gonna be hella tight!

i played with alternate 2 and checked off the hold to aim thing and increased sensitivity and it plays almost like cod4&5

    psn = Circa1990

  • 1 decade ago

I played it almost 20 times

I suggest you to change the control layout to Alternative 2 and check off the "Zoom Hold". You could increase the sensitivity to about 75%. I guarantee you that you will have more fun with this control.

Alternative 2 is kinda like COD4 controls. You press L1 to aim- make sure you enable "zoom hold" this way the aiming will be just like COD4
