Public opinion on the name Gideon?

We're thinking about Gideon.. first response? Also, a nickname besides Giddy or Deon?

I love Gideon. It's my favorite name for a boy, though my husband says we can't use it since our last name starts with a G.

It doesn't have a lot of good nicknames, though. Eon (pronounced like Ian) is one I've considered, but I'd probably end up using "Gid" or "Gid-kid" or just calling him by his full name.

    Very cool and unique!

It's a name that is unique but won't get made fun of. I'd rather be unique than having to have the same name as someone I know. My name is Kaitlyn, and I wish, to this day, that there weren't as many people with the same name as me.

My friend just named her son Gideon and everyone has been commenting on how it is a great name.

I think Deon is definitely a good nickname, or Gidd.

    Go for it! =)

Nice. Giddy wouldn't be a great nickname, however. Maybe Deon. Good luck.

This a fantastic name. Unique and not made-up.I say no nickname at all but between those two Deon for sure.

Sorry, but I really don't like the name; however, I do like the nickname Deon :)

Gideon works. It is a good and solid name. Nick for that would be Gid.

I do not like gideon at all.

the gid part puts me off completly

    I prefer dion better.

    Alexander? alex

  • I don't mind it. Seems relatively normal and biblical.

As for nicknames... Maybe De or use the middle name?

Makes me think of those period movies with heroes fighting dragons and villains.

    Deon? lol
