why did my car suddenly stop moving forward?
My son was not far from home when his dodge neon with front wheel drive stopped moving forward. The engine is running, but he has no forward gears or park; only reverse. There are no indications of leaks and he said that the car was running fine until this happened. I'm not a mechanic at all; is this a transmission issue or something else with the front wheel drive. Thanks in advance.
The answers all led me somehwere, and were all good. It was a broken right front axle. My son has a little explaining to do, but we're full of potholes around here and it cost less than $250 to fix so I'm relieved.

Check shift cable out of place before anything else, since there is no park also.

Sounds like you transmission needs repair. There's nothing else in the driveline that would make your car behave like that. Check to oil level in the transmission first, but I think the trans needs repair.

could be a number of thinks. if it is standard. could be the clutch. if it is automatic. the issue could be the transmmision. best is to check it out. tell him to check for fluid levels. if not that get a mechanic.

seems such as you transmission desires restoration. there is not something indoors the driveline that would desire to desire to make your motor vehicle behave like that. study to oil element indoors the transmission first, yet i think of of the trans desires restoration.
