Why do English sporting teams NOT have their own National Anthem ?
It seems most peculiar that for the most part English national teams do not have their own anthem but persist in the singing of God Save the Queen which of course is the nominal anthem for the four nations of the United Kingdom . This lack of imagination perhaps accounts for the non performance of the current fifteen in recent matches at home and away . Suggestions for a viable non chariot alternative .

Old know all" does not know much. The present Queen is descended more from Germans than the Scots. After all, the English, in typical form, murdered a king of Scottish descent after their Civil War.
England has no claim as a bona-fida country. It has neither a national anthem nor its own Parliament. (The last English Parliament sat in 1707).
The national anthem has NOTHING to do with England's performance on the rugby field. It is a c**p team, with a c**p captain and a c**p manager, whose ideas about playing the modern game are C**P.

I'd like to disagree that a national anthem can;t inspire a team. I think the English Rugby results are a true testiment that the lack of flair, get up and go and motivation in "God Save the Queen" is why they suck, if i had to sing this boring old heap of a Anthem I too would suck. Nothing against your Queen over there, but the 1900's have been and gone, send them there tune back also!!!! Everytime the English travel down under and I have to listen to that irritating, farting noise you all call an anthem, it makes me more greatful that I will never have to sing that rubbish. I'm sure you can find something better than this, the only people who have any commosense at this point are the other Nations (not the English) who boo at the Anthem!!! No wonder why your teams suck, they are a sleep by the time kickoff happens!!

Fact. It is the British National Anthem. 1) Stupidity or arrogance by the Rugby atrocities. 2) The Olympics are correct. Johnny Foreigner is just so much more intelligent than the English chaps "Flower of Scotland" is NOT the Scottish National Anthem. It was written by that great guy in the Corries If "Scots Wae Hae" was good enough for Bruch ...

This debate has going on for years..................it is known as the British and NI anthem, but some reason, England claim it as Their own, personally, I don't think the Welsh. Scots or the Irish give a frig!
At least us Celts can claim to have individuality!!!!!!!!!
Like our own language and anthem!
Land of hope and glory is actually known as a British patriotic song, that again would include Wales and Scotland!!!!!!!!
As for your suggestion of this being the reason that the team lacks imagination........they did win the world cup...maybe only Wilko was inspired by "God save the Queen!"

England do have their own anthems in some sports. In the common wealth games they use land of hope and glory and in cricket they use Jerusalem. For years English rugby fans have been trying to persuede the RFU to change their anthem to Jerusalem but now that the cricket team have beaten them to it, I don't know if they will change.

"God Save the Queen" is the English National Anthem. It is used by the United Kingdom by extension, but it's usually booed in Scotland, Wales and Ireland. (Damned cheek, Scots - she's descended from your royal family, not ours.) At times, various sporting bodies have experimented with "Land of Hope and Glory", but it never caught on. Perhaps we should keep "God Save the Queen" as the English anthem (if only the English would learn the words - it's only "our" in the first 2 lines, then it's "the") and use Rule Britannia for Great Britain. I don't think the Northern Irish would be happy whatever we used for the UK.

Nonsense.
If the greatest problem facing the RFU (or any sport federation) was a lack of a true national anthem, they wouldn't be a complete shambles like they currently are.

Having a decent anthem doesn't make for a decent side. Can't blame the song for a lousy rugby team. And cricket team.

I imagine that it is the English national anthem and it now covers the other 3 countries after they folded and we took them over.
