classic ford truck question?

Im looking at buying a 1960 ford f100 4x4. My question is does anybody know of a company that makes a disc brake conversion for it. Or would i be better off just swaping out the front axle with one from a newer model. Also would I be able to swap in a 5spd? or would i run into issues with the transfer case.

Thanks

Update:

it has a 292 y block with a 4spd manual

depends on the front axle used in the conversion. I am not positive, but the 4x4s from that era were conversions, usually from Marmon Harrington. NAPCO might have done some too, but I think they were mostly Chevy conversions. If it is a Dana axle, might be easier to add the disc brake parts. Obscure axle, replace with a modern unit.

A 5 speed would not be too hard, modern trans and transfer case would be the easiest, depending on the motor in the truck right now. Most of the newer 5 speeds have the bellhousing cast on in one piece. The older motors used a different pattern than the newer engines. A modern trans and transfer case would be nice, I would think.

The only problem with the 5 speed is finding a adaptor for the 292 Y block,I believe the 292 was a MEL series engine and would I believe be difficult to match up to a newer modern transmission,as far as a front axle the choices are limitless any Dana axle could be used if you are able to fabricate the brackets and this would be simple if the truck is a leaf spring front axle truck.

Master Power Brakes makes a disc rake kit thatshould keep you from having to throw out an anchor.

I think a T5 should work with your truck. Not sure about the bolt pattern, but here's a truck transmission guide.
