I have spybot, which I've already run and its not finding any problems. is there any kind of...something i can download to solve this problem, or at least help me figure out what the problem is?? As you can tell Im not the smartest at computers. Would Really appreciate some help! Thanks!

Sorry Michelle, this is a very big question and the chances of someone being able to correctly diagnose the problem without access to your computer is remote (no pun intended).

In addition to the other suggestions already made:

Check that your virus checker and firewall are up-to-date and run another scan. Make sure the scan has completely shut-down before doing anything else.

Make sure that there is no programme with internet access running in the background (e.g. Outlook or Outlook Express, any chat program or peer to peer sharing utility, like LimeWire).

Someone may be piggy-backing your wireless connection. To make sure your wireless network is secure, firstly change the password on your router from the default password and make a note of your new password. Now make sure your encryption is turned on. WEP is usually turned on by default but this is easily hacked so, if it is available, use WPA or WPA-2.

The internet in your area may be running slowly. Are there lots of other users with (legal) access to your wireless network? Someone may be hogging the system with big downloads. You can't do much about this.

Your computer may be running more than one virus checker or firewall. There should only be one security programme running at a time.

    Try doing a hard-drive clean-up to free-up disk space. Follow this with a de-fragmentation.

Re-start your router. Turn off the power for a few minutes and let it re-establish a new connection. While your router is off, restart your computer, this may help.

Listen to all the telephone handsets connected to the same line as your router. One of the ADSL filters may have failed. If you have a spare filter, try swapping out your other filters in turn.

If you can connect to your router with an ethernet cable, try that.

If you have a computer savvy friend, ask them for advice. Most will be happy to try to sort out a problem for a cup of tea and a sandwich.

If there is any more relevant information please post it. How long has this been a problem? Hours? Days? Weeks?

Try downloading a different browser. Firefox is much faster and safer than Internet Explorer. Once you have used it for a little while you will wonder why anyone uses anything else.

The problem may not be on your end. If this just started try looking at other sites and see if they come through quicker. If so, the problems should be sorted out in a few hours.

Rebooting your cable/dsl modem and your router may also help the page throughput.

As far as crashing, there's likely a third party control that's misbehaving. If you're using IE, try it with add ons disabled by running "iexplore -extoff". If that preforms well, use the add on manager to disable all your add ons and turn them on one by one until you find the culprit. Sometimes a virus scanner's web content filter can be problematic. Adobe's flash player can also act funny on some PC's.

Do you have high speed internet connection?

If not i can give you a little of the tecniques i do.

    I end background task.

    To do that.

Go to the bottom of you screen. (The Taskbar)

And where it shows the time and things.

    Right Click on it.

    Click "Task Manager".

End every process you see that is by the owner of your computer.

In other words the kind of brand your computer is.

For example mine will say Compaq Owner.

But "DO NOT" end explorer.exe or task manager.exe OR ANY SYSTEM,NETWORK SERVICE,LOCAL SERVICE etc.

And then download AMD FUSION FOR GAMING. Use the expert profile when u download it. Thats what i do. It not always for gaming you can use it jsut to browse the internet.

    _(shrugs shoulders)_

    Anyway it will work.

If its still slow get High Speed Internet Connection. BUT STILL DO THE STEPS THAT ARE ASKED!

If you do have High Speed...even better!

    :) Hope it works.

The speed will depend entirely on the package that you have got from broadband connection
