Deer hunting in Dallas/Forth Worth area?

I'm looking into getting on a new deer lease about an hour south of Forth Worth (Cleburne area). I have hunted for several years in the hill country but I am unfamiliar with this part of Texas. Can anyone tell me what kind of deer I can expect in this neck of the woods? Thanks.

Around Cleburne you won't find as many deer as you would around San Saba or Brady. Just west and south of the city there are some decent sized deer. The state park has several deer on it and they come and go to the surrounding areas. I have some distant cousins who hunt just past the park and they take some decent size deer each year. I've seen some nice bucks feeding by the hospital area too. The biggest problem with hunting in Johnson county is the rural development. 20 years ago there were quail and deer from Cleburne through the Goatneck area all the way to the Brazos River. With all the " ranchette" communities going in alot of the wildlife is moving out. Also you'll find some feral hogs in a few areas of Johnson county. It is a one buck county and depending on the next session may have some new doe restrictions. Check the TPWD website for more details.

Not as plentiful as the hill country, I guess that is Johnson County and they are not know for big deer, but you can always set out feed plots and protein feeders and build a good herd.

Shoot man, if you go down yonder man don't in the woods man you'll see an ol' tractor man. Then you may see a country gal named Betsy Sue she should lead you to the hunnin zone. Hope that helps yall.
