From everything I hear, the UAW offers great benefits. Can I join the UAW if I am unemployed? Will they get me a job?

That's a great idea. Since you are currently unemployed, working as a UAW member won't require any additional effort in your daily output.

I think the UAW is having enough diffuculty keeping the members they have employed. You can join if you can afford the fees, but I wouldn't count on getting anything in return from them.

little late are'nt u -- they are laying off people, if they are laying off people why would they wanna take u when they have to pay out to people who are already on their rolls???
