Steve Kroft On Credit Default Swaps And Their Central Role In The Unfolding Economic Crisis
Community Reinvestment Act
Economic Reality always follows Economic Policy by 8-12 years. What we're seeing now is the failure of the Subprime Mortgage Market (AKA Subprime Mortgage Crisis), which was a direct result of the Community Reinvestment Act of 1995 (CRA1995) that was signed into law by President Bill Clinton.
CRA1995 forced banks to use a point based system to determine the eligibility of applicants for home loans, with the three biggest points values coming from their area of residence, their race, and their income. – Mary Flasch
The Community Reinvestment Act (or CRA, Pub.L. 95-128, title VIII, 91 Stat. 1147, 12 U.S.C. § 2901 et seq.) is a United States federal law designed to encourage commercial banks and savings associations to meet the needs of borrowers in all segments of their communities, including low- and moderate-income neighborhoods.[1][2][3] The Act was intended to reduce discriminatory credit practices against such neighborhoods, a practice known as redlining.[4] The Act requires the appropriate federal financial supervisory agencies to encourage regulated financial institutions to meet the credit needs of the local communities in which they are chartered, consistent with safe and sound operation. (See full text of Act and current regulations.[1]) To enforce the statute, federal regulatory agencies examine banking institutions for CRA compliance, and take this information into consideration when approving applications for new bank branches or for mergers or acquisitions.[5]

If I understand their argument they want to offer more of the same, tax cuts or they want to stand pat and wait for the market to recover.
This is the collective wisdom of the right and the best that they have to offer to the citizens? We are to petrified to do anything and you are on your own. History repeats its self. This is exactly what they did from 29-32 at the beginning of the Great Depression, stood by as the crisis grew into a nightmare.

Wow, it looks like ããã/ãªã¿ã¯ slammed your snausage in the dirt.
Ok, lets say the Republicans did spend way too much money. FOr silly things like looking for Osama Bin Laden, and removing a tyrant named Sadam Hussein. ANd lets even say that the Republicans did get involved in Nation building. And lets just say that the bridge in Minn. fell down because it was designed and built by Republicans and was built with Republican steel. And lets assume that Obamas economist advisors are actually nobel prize winners ( really impressive considering that they gave one to algore, now they have no credibility) lets assume that everything you claim is entirely accurate.
Now, you explain to me why the Republicans did all these bad thing, and now the Democrats want to make a huge mistake by wasting trillions of dollars.
So just because it is Democrats now, it is OK for our government to make the same mistakes.
Remember, many thousands of Republicans voted against the Republicans because they wanted the change that Obama promised. Where is the change. There is no change. I want my change, thousands of republicans want their change.
We say no bail outs, we get bail outs, we say no business as usual, we get business as usual, we say no to the porkulus spending bill, OBAMa tries to ram it down our throats.
WHERE IS THE CHANGE?
Its REALLY EASY ! Write a stimulus bill that is targeted at CREATING JOBS !!!!!!

Most all economists agree that the Bush tax cuts got us through the double whammy of the recession and 911.
Please detail what conservative ideology has been proven wrong.
btw..that bridge had basic fundamental structural flaws. Do you think Obama's plan to hire unskilled workers to fix these problems is a solution?????????

It is like the case of the short man or the man with the teeny peenie. They bully, fight dirty and call you names. The Republican Party has not only been reduced to being a regional party of white southern men, it is now the party of very short men with teeny peenies. Until they get some new ideas, they will remain that party.
- DOOMLv 71 decade ago
Obama is not doing anything different. FDR tried stimulus during a depression, and turned it into the Great Depression. Bush tried a stimulus in his second term, and yet we still find ourselves in our current situation. I don't know how anyone can possibly think another stimulus is any different, or that it will work.
Obama voted to fund the wars in both Iraq and Afghanistan.
- El TecoloteLv 71 decade ago
Dude, would you classify those who dumped the tea overboard in what is now known as the Boston Tea Party as Democrats?
- Anonymous1 decade ago
The amusing thing is that even Obama's economists, and his vice president, say that it's likely this plan will fail. While they're on his payroll.. they're saying it will fail.
Can you imagine what they'd be saying if he wasn't their boss? Why, they'd probably be saying what every other economist is saying.. that this plan is a huge waste of money.

look
i agree with you that the republicans like myself had made many mistakes and we are paying for them right now
but this does not mean in anway that we are just stupid
and we should let obama do as he pleases
slam me and the republicans like we deserve right now but please do not just let obama do as he pleases and just agree with him
i am willing to admit our mistakes but i would like to think that you will
at least question if you feel that obama is not doing the right thing
please
