Can I use a special stamp (like a decorative stamp) on a letter to a recruit?

I have to send a letter to my friend who is a recruit in boot camp. I have heard that you shouldn't send anything except in a plain envelope with nothing but the addresses and a stamp.

However, the only stamp I have right now is not the typical Liberty Bell one. It's part of one of those sets that form a picture, something like flowers and hummingbirds. I'm kind of short on time, so would that work, or would they give the recruit a hard time over that? It's also a little bigger than normal stamps, and I would have to add a one cent stamp.

Okay, thank you!

Update:

The stamp is a 41 cent stamp and I would add a one cent stamp.

Update 2:

Buddha... I want to make sure he doesn't get in trouble since from what I hear, boot camp is pretty strict. If I was writing somewhere else, I wouldn't care. I had to get these stamps from a friend, and all she had was these. Now see, I would go get a stamp, but: it's late, I'm 16 and don't have a car, and I can't get money out of the bank at 11pm. And I have to send this early tomorrow, before school.

i don't think that it matters what kind of stamp you use, but i remember i put an ARMY JROTC sticker inside my boyfriend's letters and got him in trouble like 2 times, it was so hilarious.... i did it on purpose too...i am just evil sometimes hahah, but when he came back from boot, he was laughing about it also :) he even thought it was funny when he got in trouble O_o yea he is weird... yeah as long as the envelope is plain and contains no stuff relating to other branches :D

    Send the letter!

I'm sure even if he was given a hard time over the stamp you will both laugh about it later.

    Holy CRAP.

Can't you find something more significant to whine about than STAMPS!

Short on time? Don't waste it playing on your computer then - GO GET A FREAKIN STAMP!

EDIT: Go to bed you sissy.
