Do birds need vaccines?
My dad has had a blue crowned conure for about 7 years now and he does not take good care of it AT ALL! He's never taken it to the vet. Are birds supposed to receive regular vaccinations like dogs and cats? I'm thinking about taking it to a vet myself since my dad doesn't seem to care. Any bird lovers knowledge would be helpful, thanks!

No, birds don't need vaccines like other animals. There is a polyomavirus vaccination available for all parrots, however it's rarely recommended. The disease most often occurs in baby birds. Most adult birds are immune to the disease. The Pacheo Disease vaccine is also rarely recommended. This vaccine has caused many deaths in birds after it is given. There is also a pox virus vaccine, but the protection from disease is poor.
Make sure to take your pet bird in yearly for a vet exam.

Maybe if your Dad doesn't care he would give the bird to you . Blue crowns are nice birds if they aren't screamers.
Birds hardly ever need vaccines and that's only if they've been exposed. However a vet visit usually consists of a fecal test to check for infections and blood tests to check for liver and kidney problems and to see if there are infections in the body. There is also a physical exam which includes listening to lungs and heart, throat ,& mouth & eye exams. I forget the cost as I usually take in 3 at a time .to get a multiple bird discount (which at my vet isn't too generous .)

I doubt that. but I wouldn't get the vaccine anyway. the chances for contracting it are lower than the chances of a bad reaction to the vaccine itself.
