Preteens, Teens & Parents- your input is requested?

Since Y!A does not have any section that is dedicated for the preteen/teens from 13-17, I am in the process of researching Yahoo's TOS, Community Guidelines and other corporate rules & regs to see if it would be feasible & beneficial to both parties to have a dedicated forum created, then submit a proposal to Yahoo to create a section just for you.

So my question to all of you is this:

Do you support having a dedicated, well moderated, safe preteen/teen section created within Yahoo Answers so you don't have to worry about being reported for posting your questions in the wrong section or getting answers that only say "Wrong Section", instead of giving you an answer pertaining to the question asked?

If the response is positive, I will continue my research and contact Yahoo to see if a safe, well moderated, dedicated forum can be established for you. Since I work in Law Enforcement, your safety is my #1 concern, so I am looking at how to keep the spam, possible pedophiles, and any negative influence at a minimum- something that will be a task all of it's own to conquer seeing how spam appears to run rampant in the other sections.

Update:

This section is under Parenting & Pregnancy- I still see Level 6 & 7 members criticizing teens using this section to ask teen questions saying that this section is for PARENTS to ask questions about their ADOLESCENT children. Even if this section can be defined as a section for teens to stop members from reporting you for misusing Y!A will be a plus.

Update 2:

The scumbags are going to try to go where the children are. Hopefully, if Yahoo agrees to my proposals, the way the forum is moderated, it will limit the exposure. The technology is in place, if Yahoo uses it, that will reduce the risk exponentially.

Of course, that's a great idea! I think that teens should have a forum to go to where they can ask questions in an unbiased environment where no one knows who they are. Sometimes as a teen, if you could just be invisible for one moment, it would solve a mass of issues. A forum like Yahoo Answers is a good outlet for them. I answere questions all the time from many teens who are scared about being pregnant or peer pressure and other things. I think that it would be great for them to have a space where they can talk amongst each other. The only thing that I would suggest is that there be certain measures in place for restrictions against self-identification. Maybe the webmaster could create a message/posting approval mechanism which could crawl for certain keywords and questions to determine pedophiliac solicitation(s). But as you said, that is a quest within itself!

I think it would be a great idea. I often hear people say that they wish there was a section like what you describe, so to make it happen would be a good move or at least give it a trial period to see if it does turn out to be successful and beneficial. It is a very good suggestion.

EDIT:Is it just me? This is the teen and pre-teen section but I am sure yahoo temporarily changed it to adolescent! Maybe yahoo are thinking of changing the name of this category? A

few minutes ago I saw the word adolescent and now it has changed back to teen and pre-teen!

I think that is a wonderful idea. There are a lot of teens that are looking for some good advice, not only from one another, but also from older people. A lot of answers these teens get back are totally inappropriate. I was answering a very serious question about a younger girl who had questions about sex, and she got some very obscene answers.

Yahoo needs to come up with some better filtering, so that overall, kids aren't exposed to that junk.

I'd LOVE to have a section where we could post without getting answers like "are you pregnant? a parent? have an adolescent child? have a baby or new born? have a toddler? then why are you posting this here? go post somewhere else."

    That's a very smart idea =]

    I totally support it, 100%!

    SUPPORT!

i really believe this is not the place for young people to be asking questions.

or at least a family section. for kids, teens, and parents.

I think the adolescent section goes to the kids-- if you made this it would just be a copy of this.

  • Of course! All the trolls who report questions because we are too young are tattletails. I f Y!A approves, it would be my homepage! Kudis to you for being such a smart and considerate person.

    er sure...

i dont get how my safety is in danger if i ask a question in the adolesent section though...

also if you made a section for just teenagers to go in

the paedofiles would just go in there

    you cant stop that
