How do I stop the noise from the rain on my air conditioner?

It's a new office at a new job... the noise is deafening and even interferes with conversation at times. It's a big air conditioner and sticks out pretty far. If I can come up with a reasonable solution maintenance is likely to help. Any ideas?

Put a rubber door mat on top of it. Do not cover any vents, or you could ruin the air conditioner. Good Luck!

Actually, any hard surface will allow pretty much the same noise you have with the metal cover of the A/C unit itself. My suggestion would be to drape a piece of canvas or heavy burlap material over it from above, with maybe a vinyl tarp directly under the material to funnel the water away. It's the same idea as putting a towel in the bottom of a pail when you're catching water leaking through a roof, to stop the noise of the water drops. The noise is absorbed when the drop hits the materials. It may require a frame of some sort to be built, or it might be able to just be attached to the A/C case itself.
