How long did it take the egyptians to build the ancient Citys and Pyramids that still stand today?

Ive always been curious about the egyptian's and how long it took to build

those huge structures....

Are there any sites that talk about it??

Has anyone stood next to a pyramid or went into one??

It has been estimated that it took around 20 years to build the great pyramid. Many temple complexes such as Karnak were added onto by a succession of pharaohs often changing the name of their predecessor to their own therefore taking the credit for a particular pylon, wall relief or temple way station.

This is where the Egyptologists "step in" to decipher and determine what the archaeologist has found and which era and pharaoh it actually belongs to .

Unfortunately no complete cities have survived to be excavated.

The suburbs of Cairo cover the ancient cities of On and Heliopolis but much is known about the size and type of cities that originally existed from contemporary records left by the ancient Egyptians and the accounts of ancient Greek travelers and historians.

The ancient city of Thebes or Waset as it was known to the Egyptians lies underneath modern Luxor.Recent excavations required the purchase and demolition of private dwellings and shops and have revealed more of the avenue of sphinx's that once linked the Luxor Temple to the Karnak complex as well as a Roman bath house.

I have been into all accessable passageways and chambers of the pyramids at the Giza complex and most at Saqarra and it is always an exiting and also exhasting experience.

The highlight would be gaining permission to access to the relief chambers above the Kings Chamber in the great pyramid.

I admit it was a bit scary, very humid and claustrophic but an experience I could not refuse and something I will always remember.

some of the pyramids took over 20 years to build. inside the pryamids were different tombs of where people were buried. i cant remember exactly but i think the biggest pryamid in Giza (Cairo) stands about 130 metres tall. they are all standing to crumble especially after the earthquake in the 90s. they are amazing to be near. i never went inside one but i heard that they are like saunas and you have to duck alot to get inside the enterance!
