Why can't young drivers in expensive cars drive in snow without sliding and skidding around?
We had heavy snow here in Leicester UK and young drivers don;t know how to handle it
A lady got stuck driving a ford 4x4 pick up trick the wheels slipping could not get moving needed a push or do I take it young lady drivers don't know how to handle a 4x4 in the snow or had she not engaged 4 wheel drive but I thought 4x4 was best car to drive in snow or is it the driver
Also you get those young drivers under 30 in there custom cars and sport hatchbacks BMW'S Merceades etc who always speeding think they can do same in snow they keep putting there foot on it trying to go to fast accelerate fast and just skid and slide can't get going why do young people think they can drive like a racing driver on a road which is like an ice rink one young Asian driver in a BMW his wheels was just going round and round car was not moving getting no traction could not go but my mum was has been driving for ages has no problem knows how to handle the conditions.

To be fair we are not actually taught how to drive in snow. Yes it is covered in theory but we never get much practise at it. Although having said that the rule of thumb in snow and ice is to just drive slowly and be extra careful and anyone is capable of that unless they are too stupid to adjust their driving according to the conditions. I see far too many people driving cars they cannot handle every day of the year, not just in the snow so I feel your frustration. Xx

I'm 58 years old and I drive like that. I live for a snow covered road or a freshly graded gravel road. It keeps the juices flowing. And it pays to keep up your driving skills too.
example - on Monday we had freezing rain. I was driving my 48 passenger school bus and it went up the highway totally sideways for over 300 feet. If it had not been for my 40 years of driving like an idiot in the snow we would have lost 15 students, a bus and a driver who is not ready to let go just yet. The next day I was not quite so blessed. Ditched the bus when the old phart driver got disorientated in a blinding snow storm. We only got the bus out today. 1 for 2 is not a bad average.

Hands up who are experts in this country on snow? Anyone? Few at the back I see but owning a 4be4 is not going to get you out of trouble if you do not know how to use it or not aware of the good and bad points of the vehicle. That goes for anyone, male or female in a vehicle no matter what the price is and what the vehicle is.
My guess is your mum is more careful and nothing to do with the price of the car or experience on snow.

there is only one simple answer for this, they never drove in snow before so they don't have a clue on what to do and driving in snow is not as easy as it seems.
I come from tierra del fuego which a province of argentina right at the end of the south american continent, there it snows a lot and you don't see as many accidents as you may see in other parts of the world the drivers are not used to drive in snow,
So like I said before,if you never drove in snow before don't even try to do it or you will end up crashing your car and maybe injuring yourself.
This days is very easy for many people out there to buy very nice cars but I can garantee you that a very small porcentage of those people knows really how to drive.

Because they are inexperienced. In areas where the weather changes so drastically, the driver's tests should be two fold, the first part in the summer and the second in the winter.
Driver's licenses do have restrictions put on them and this could be one of them.

Because young kids think they look cool when they're spinning their wheels or reving their engines at traffic lights, and they think that it impresses the women and makes the blokes jealous, when in reality it makes them look like the sad losers that they are.

For the 4x4 lady: if a guy does not explain these things to her, she will not think of it untill it is too late.
For the punck "hot shot" kids: they are punk hot shot kids... plain and simple.

They only THINK they can drive, they also THINK they can drive, when there is no snow and ice, but the unexpected always catches 'em out!

Immaturity and lack of driving experience are the two main factors.

your answer is in the question, age = experience. unless you're raised in an area w/ lots of snowfall regularly (i was taught to drive in colorado), it can take many years to learn the pitfalls of winter driving.
