Is your wife working? Are your children old enough to work? Have you tried a job at a fast food place/mall/other job?

The only way a potential employer will check your credit score is if you give them permission. I recommend getting a copy of your report free (annualcreditreport.com) and bringing that with you and offering it, if they ask. If they insist on getting the report themselves, then ask them to do a soft pull.

Even if they did a hard pull, the system is set up so that 14 pulls in 14-21 days is only counted as one and will not mess up your score that much.

As for the bills, detail out exactly what you have and what the interest rates are...if you have savings, consider using some of them to pay down the debt (3% savings vs 23% debt...savings are NOT worth it). Figure out what you don't need (internet? cable? eating out? more expensive groceries?) and eliminate those to help pay the debt...also, don't add anymore!

I also suggest looking on personal finance websites such as myFico.com for more advice.

    good luck!

First step- Get a job. Get your resume up on every single job search site there is. I went on Monster.co.uk for a month and got a job, very good site. Just have to put the effort in and keep applying. Set yourself a target. Apply for 10 decent jobs every day, the more you apply for the better chances you'll have. Then go to the local shopping centre and do a resume drop. Go everywhere, even the crap places you don't want to work- mcdonalds/burger king.. if it gives you some money then it's worth it.

I'm not right sure about assistance without killing your credit score, see what others on here say and if you get no useful info then ring up the job seekers place again and see if they can assist you at all. I doubt that theres anyone else that will be able to help you.

    Goodluck!
