The Dreaded V
Today we pass that dreaded ‘V’
All gaudy Red pomposity
Though some will make it truly be
A day for love, for memory
Most will know the bitter taste
Of vapid flower and thorny waste
As most will know the source of card
No mystery to solve, it’s not hard
There is no fun if all is known
True love is always better shown
By other ways than joining in
To fill the nations rubbish bin
To spend a fortune for the pleasure
Funding fatcats, for their leisure
The money you waste, could instead
Be used to fund, a life near dead
To educate a child in hope
Or help another person cope
Why not agree in advance
To help another have a chance
Help the needy
Not the greedy
St.Valentine’s Day is really dead
Love one another God has said

i agree haha,
the nation is all for saving the planet, but they dont think about the amount of cards and envelopes that go to waste do they? i mean, you use them for one day and then forget about them just as fast.
i love the poem and yes if valentines day is all about love then why are people so materialistic about it?

Valentine's day has been and gone...so I cannot answer this question.

I try to do something worthwhile sometimes...but I waste money often.

Nice poem and makes a good point. I don't dread the V though. I think it can be sweet. I will help others and my son can make some valentines at home.

A beautiful poem, and i totally agree with the sentiment behind it. My husband and I make cards for each other as the cost of them is crazy.
