If Jesus says to go into a secret place to pray, how come the church ask the church to pray for them?
And let me make myself clear on them. I'm talking about one self, not as a group but on self. Not praying for family members, or sick people, but on self.
I believe this is one of the reason so many people lose what little faith they once had in God. Because they go to a bunch of people, ask them to pray for them, and when the prayer doesn't happen because some one in the crowd of people guaranteed that God will answer their prayer, and it doesn't happen. That tiny faith they had is no longer there. I know that if someone asked me to pray for them, I will teach them how to pray but I will not pray for someone who is capable and able to talk to God themselves. I don't want someone coming back to me telling me that God did not answer my prayer for them. Jesus taught the disciples how to pray. I had a group of ladies who were going around the church praying for people come up to me and asked me could they pray for me one day, and I told them no, I can pray for myself. Well than can you pray for us? And I was like, you are going around praying for people, but you want people to pray for you? That doesn't make since. Since you are talking to God for people, why not just ask God to do whatever you need done for you? Well the bible says where two or more and I had to cut the lady off and remind her. That scripture has nothing to do with prayer. Go back and reread what Jesus said about going around praying to be been seen by men, and how we are to pray to God in a secret place. Those ladies walked off faster than you can say, turnip greens. If you say you believe in God and have a faith of a mustard seed, than why do you ask people to pray for you? Even during the time that Jesus went to pray to God because of his final hour, he did not ask the disciples to pray, but to keep watch. If anything, even with the faith he had, at that very moment, wouldn't you think Jesus would had the disciples pray with and for him?
Now for those who want to remind me that Jesus prayed with and for the disciples. So true, but Jesus knew their faith was very weak and they had so much doubts. Jesus prayer for the disciples was more for them to understand that God will be there for them, even through the trouble times. They just needed some encouraging words, hope and comfort that God will have their back when Jesus was to leave. Back then the disciples was just babies learning how to walk. Today we have the understanding because we have the word. Their word was live and in front of them. So we can meditate where they had to grab it all at once and instill it right than and there. So my question is a easy one, how come the church ask the church to pray for them, when Jesus says to pray in secret?
people stop posting what you think Jesus meant to say. What Jesus said is what he said, you can't speak for him and I'm going by what was written, Not trying to assume what I think Jesus meant to say. The writers were there, you weren't so I take the writers at hand. Not at what I think.

Because, put simply, most people don't understand anything, about Christ, the Bible, nor it's meanings...ESPECIALLY churches. Preachers, pastors, priests, etc are so wrong about everything they say Christ is, and don't understand the Words in scripture. Churches are cults nothing more, and all preachers in them are false prophets...they cannot lead anyone to Christ. They are power, and control freaks, who bloat their authority over people seeking Salvation, and portray themselves as a guide to Christ, and Heaven. Sorry, most people do not understand this, and most don't like it, but Christ does not hear a churches prayer, for their words are of duty insincere, and carnal churches' leaders...all of them, are self-righteous controllers of their members. Their desire is for power, and they revel in the worship given to them by the spiritually blind.
Anyone seeking Christ, His Love, and Salvation can find Him if He is their true desire...hence His words to pray in a secret place, a private place, so no outsiders can participate, hear, interject, or interfere. Christ always has said He and each of His children have a personal relationship. He, and you, only, no invitations for others allowed, put simply, for it is He alone you put complete trust in, and confess all to, for He will not condemn, but bring you comfort.
Others will not...

because the Bible also shows believers praying for other believers. and The Bible also says if there is one sick among you let the elders of the church pray. It says lay hands on the sick. Jesus himself prayed for others and his disciples. So the point is God requires both that you have a private prayer life and that you pray for/with other because when 2 or 3 are gathered together there is even that much more power. An example of this is in the book of acts when you would see groups of believerr praying and getting results.

Yes, in Mathew 6:9-15 it says to pray in private. But in Matthew 19:13-15 Jesus prayed in front of people. And again in Luke 9:28-32. Lets not forget the Prayer Jesus prayed on the cross. Matthew27:45-46 "Now from the sixth hour there was darkness over all the land unto the ninth hour. And about the nineth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying 'Eli, Eli, lama sa-bach-tha-ni?' that is to say, My God my God why hast thou forsaken me?" And lets not forget the last prayer Jesus said in public Matt:27:45-46 which says "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice 'Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit' and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."
As I hope you noted I included where the verses I quoted are in the Bible.

Follower.... James 5:16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed, The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. Stand corrected! Also remember when you or someone else thinks that their prayer is unanswered, it has been answered, it may not get the results we wanted, but it has been answered. Sometimes its in our best interest. Like a person that has cancer, who may be getting treatment that is doing more harm then good being called home. Or maybe that red Mustang that someone wanted would have cost them more then a financial debt, maybe a death! The disciples had more to the contrary then we do today. They see miracles done by Jesus with their own eyes, right in front of them, but still had disbelief. To refuse to pray for others only takes away a blessing. Its like receiving the gift of Salvation. Its not a gift if you don't receive it, and use it. I suggest you read verse 5 of chapter 6 in Matthew to see why you enter into thy closet as it says in verse 6. We must not take scripture out of context as to what its talking about. To many have done that and their reward wasn't a reward i would want. Good Luck! Steve

No, that's not the reason. Corporate prayer is sanctioned just as much as private prayer. When he told the disciples about going to a private place to pray, he was making a comparison to point out the man that made a show of praying, he wasn't making a "prayer" doctrine. There is a reasonable explanation why some prayers are answered and some are not, but it is too complicated for this forum.

Jesus was specifically addressing the pharisees and their openly pious long winded public prayers when he said it is better to pray in secret than to make a public spectacle of oneself as the self-righteous pharisees were doing. Prayer is a conversation with God. Would you go out on a street corned and loudly make some long winded proclamation of your love for your wife or would you privately tell her how much she means to you? The pharisees were like those guys who rent a plane and drag a banner across a crowded stadium asking their girlfriend to marry them. They're into the public adoration, not the personal relationship.
I don't think this is a general admonition against corporate prayer though, as the Bible also makes it quite clear that we are to join together in raising our petitions to God. The pharisees were not, however, joining their hearts in common petition to God, they were just self-seeking. Honest prayer is pleasing to God no matter how or where it comes from.

people shud pray when ever they need to.
If your at a party and everyone is drinking or smoking and you want to ask god to help you stay safe you arent goin to wait until after you can pray when ever you need help
but when you are praying alone like saying your nightly prayers it should be in a place where you can think and relax like your room.its not good to show off your pryers though they are something personal ment to between you and the lord like in the bible they would pray on the streets (the pharisees?)for show that is whats not right
god answers all prayers but you need to try to do it your self and he will help you along the way
he answers all prayers it may not be tht day or week or month he knows when it's right.

First off, you are anything but clear, you ramble on and on, and I was pretty confused by your lack of using a brief, concise statement or question.
Jesus said to pray in the closet because that way your prayer was sincere, it is between you and Jesus. Jesus did not appreciate show-offs, and doesn't appreciate Bible-thumpers
And don't get in to silly arguements with people over God and Jesus

Jesus doesn't want people to pray in public for show like the Pharisees were guilty of. Prayer is meaningful to God when it's respected, and in a form of a private commune with God.

I didn't read all of your question , but I wanted to respond to your initial question:
Group prayer is good, there is power in prayer.
Private prayer is good so our hearts can be valued with our God one on one. Also good.
Where two or more are gathered in my name may refer to both: More than one person gathered together in a group for prayer.
Spiritually speaking, individually (self and spirits) gathered together in private prayer.
So prayers with the intention of a pure heart are good no matter how you choose to pray.
Source(s): Prayers are not just in words as "God(s)" would know our thoughts and intentions no matter where we are.
