How can I remove spots from Silver?
I have a silver chalice. It was heavily tarnished. I managed to get it mostly clean except for a dull yellow tint, and some DARK spots. I polished like crazy and saw no improvement. Do any of you have any suggestions? Am I going to have to find a professional? Where would I find one?

are you 100% it's silver? there is a hallmark on bottom that will indicate if it is -or plated or electroplated.not sure what you already tried, but silver is a soft metal, been around thousands of years.it's always best to store silver away from drafts,or in felt bag.so polishing is minimal.silver starts to tarnish in stages from yellowish cast to brown then black/purplish.early stage easy to clean, last is not.clean it with a mild phosphate free detergent then buff to dry, then you can use twinkle or goddard's s.d.(what museum's in europe use) they use to use chalk 100's of years ago(calcium carbonate) if by chance you scrubbed too hard,it may have worm off some silver, then it's time to see to the pros, not expensive to have done.

If you've used silver polish without success, try a little toothpaste on a soft cloth. Once you've got the spot out, clean it again with the silver polish.

I suggest you visit www.starstruckllc.com they sell silver polish as well as anti-tarnish bags to store your silver. This will prevent tarnish from occuring in the first place. You might also want to look at www.selvytusa.com they sell silver polishing cloths that remove tarnish very well.

I use a product called Silvo..you rub it on and let dry then rub it off and it shines things up nicely..there is another method where you put tin foil on the bottom of your kitchen sink, then put baking soda on it then fill with hottest water possible. Put your item in and leave it for 20 minutes or so..then rinse and buff.
