yes buzz bombs do work,, have caught many salmon on them in puget sound and on the skok river..

for kings you will want to use a red or pink,

cast out, then give the lure a chance to flutter down, wind in about about 5 or 6 cranks and pull rod tip towards you about 2 to 3 feet , then let it flutter down, usually they will hit it on the drop,,,, but if you use it by swinging for the fence, then you aren't fishing, you are snagging

    Buzz Bomb Lure

Chinook can be caught year round in BC. I have caught a Chinook on all kinds of lures fishing around kelp beds. Broke backed and solid rapalas, speck jigs used on the Gulf coast, buzz bombs ect... Most of the time I fish the kelp beds for kelp cod, ling cod, sea bass using all kinds of lures especially if I am in a school of sea bass. Before you know it a Chinook takes the lure and is trying to smoke your reel. Lots of folks relate fishing for salmon to going for them in the rivers during spawning. Like the first answer said salmon don't eat much during spawning, but spawning doesn't happen from 4-8yrs depending on the salmon. Till then they are eating their weight in bait fish throughout the kelp beds. Over-all I have probably caught about 20 or so Chinook on Buzz-bombs accidentally, fishing near kelp beds between 20-70ft of water. Drop em down and jig em around at different depths. Most of the time they hit when your coming up off of the bottom. Either red/pink, or yellow glo in dark seem to work for up here . 40yr exp

    hey skip

    wtf?? are you kidding??

the only time i have ever used "junk"(any lure) for salmon is when i was a kid and worked on a salmon troller out of bodega bay..

when the salmon are running up river returning to their spawning ground, they have only one purpose and eating is not it.. they strike out of aggression, or to pick up roe in their mouth and redeposit it elsewhere..

btw, i never did make it back to from cabo in time to make the tuna trip but it was probably not a bad thing since they never did get into the tuna(they did boat a few, including one that weighed 264lbs), and had other problems that include being boarded by the sailors from the mexican navy, who proceeded to loot the boat while the crew and fishermen were held at machine gun point.. they did get into the wahoo, and slayed em..

i have reservations for the next trip going out on the same boat, but may reconsider after my buddy regaled me with his experiences of this trip.. driving the MEX1 was all the adventure i need for some time.. the steering wheel still has my finger marks on it from gripping it so tightly, and a freezer full of dorado..
