Beagle with Itchy Eye(s)?
My Beagle has been having a persistent itchy eye problem. It's usually only his left eye, but he occasionally scratches at the right.
His scratchy has become so bad, even his snout is getting scars and bloody from the friction. I don't think it's allergies, because he has no other symptoms, and we've tried to clean it out for him, but with no luck.
Any suggests? Possible home remedies to sooth it until we can get a real vet appointment?

My dog (beagle/terrier mix) has environmental allergies and the first symptom was itchy eyes with a thick discharge that progressively got worse. The vet prescribed a specific ointment with antibiotics and a mild steroid as well as Benadryl.
Your dog probably has allergies too. If you live in a home with carpets or in a climate where there is mold, pollen, ragweed, or any other possible allergen, that's the likeliest cause of his itching.
It's important to take him to the vet to rule out any other possible causes. My vet gave the dog a stain test to see if there was anything wrong with his eyes internally before diagnosing him. If your dog is scratching at his snout, it means it is not just the eyes that are itchy. Does he rub his face in the carpets or walls? Those are all signs of allergies.
You might want to give him a lukewarm bath with a good oatmeal shampoo to clear away any of the allergens that might be clinging to his coat and give him some relief, but you will need to see a vet for a more long term solution.
Good luck!

Get saline drops not the ones for red eyes or allergy's but the real tear drops and some benadril one pill hidden in some cheese. My dog had the same problem and hes part lab part beagle. It's like over active glands in the eyes.

Your dogs eyesight is nothing to mess around with. He might scratch his eyeball. He should see the vet. And it still might be from a food allergy.
